Mods; If what I am proposing is a High Road no no, please let me know.

Hi every one,
Here is the deal. I am going to be training for a 40 mile bike ride to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. As participants, we are supposed to raise funds, as well as contribute our selves. Now, my contribution has to be at least $300.

So I had a thought how I could raise more money and help out my fellow shooters as well. I will throw in an extra $100.00, and buy a rifle or shotgun and raffle it off. Tickets would be $10 each, and all money would go to the charity, and payment would be made out to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, and I would post all of the info about the event so that every one knows that this is a real event. And the best part is that the company that I work for is participating in this event and will match and donations that I raise.

The rifle or shotgun would be a Marlin 336 (30-30), a Remington 710 (?cal) with scope), a Remington 870 12ga, a Ruger 10-22, maybe a Weatherby Vanguard, or something else. Any thing that is raffled off would be NIB bought just for this raffle.

So that leaves the question: If you could buy a raffle ticket for $10 for a new rifle or shotgun in the $350-$500 range with all of the money (actually all of the money times 2) going to a good cause, would you? Would you High Roaders be interested in this?

I've been in a few raffles like this and I have a suggestion for you. Since this will be offered basically nationwide, perhaps instead of buying a rifle yourself, go to a chain store and get a gift certificate that can be mailed to the winner. Then they can pickup the gun locally at their convenience with no shipping / transfer charges added. And yes I'm all for a new gun for $10 I'll buy in

Littlmak

That is an Idea that I had too. I was going to ask for suggestions, and then conduct a poll to determine what to buy, but I will include the gift certificate(s) in the poll as well.

I am also thinking about throwing in a second and third place prize also.

I'm in too.

As for the gift certificate idea: not all of us have XYZ Sporting Goods Chain Store around. If it was an actual firearm, it would have to go through an FFL anyway so what about having a THR member that's an FFL (Correia and Ala Dan come to mind) handle it? Or maybe CDNN?

Yeah, Connecticut probably does not have X chain store. Seriously, FFL transfer wouldnt be too bad. It's like 20 dollars, making you pay a whopping 30 dollars for an otherwise 200+ dollar gun.

Also, I think all of those rifles choices are cool, but my favorites are the 10/22, 870, and Marlin. While I dont care too too much about the bolt action hunting rifles, I wouldnt mind one for 10 dollars, so it's all up to you. It'd be cheaper to auction off a milsurp, or do a milsurp as a second prize or whatever.
