...That was a single shot, that the manufacturer declares unsafe after 10 rounds fired, but doesnt recommend firing at all, for $599 ???

I just got through reading the shotgun news artcle about a company who is making replica Liberator pistols, and selling them for 600 bucks. I understand that these are interesting pieces of history and many collectors cant afford the 3k plus that an original brings..But really...

Is there any of you who would actually buy this for that amount? when I saw the article I was excited, because I thought "ooooh now that would be cool to have" but I expected 150-250 at the most..Because really..It is what it is...an extremely cheaply made pistol made to look like a war relic..If Glock can produce a working, reliable more intricate machine for less..and lets not forget about all the OTHER WORKING pistols that cost less than that, by FAR..I think thats just outrageous..

Maybe Hi-Point needs to make a liberator clone...I think they could do it and keep the price under 20 bucks..including the laser...

The only thing I can think of on this is economy of scale reasons. If they only expect to make a small number of these, the cost to produce the equipment to make these guns would be expensive on a per unit basis. If they thought they could sell 50,000 units the total cost would allow for a much lower price.

That being said, no, I'd not even consider paying that price unless I absolutely needed the piece to finish a collection of some kind.

I can understand that..I just cant help but think they would sell at least 6 times as many for 150 bucks a unit...Just as a kicker though..I do see that you can get two empty cardboard boxes, the instruction sheet and a wooden dowel for 100 bucks....

I saw that too, in my American Rifleman mag, and had the same reaction. For less than $100, I would probably buy one, but no way at $600. It can't cost that much to stamp a couple of sheets out and tack weld them together. They should sell the stampings as a DIY kit.

If I had $600 to blow on a replica that I can't even shoot, I'd have $3K to blow on an original.

The original ones didn't last much longer. 35 rounds on one that was pretty impressive. They were designed to shoot, and take a better weapon.

I understand the point but personally I don't think I can have a gun in the house that I can't shoot. If I were a "pure" collector then I wouldn't shoot any of my nicer guns and I can see having a $600 replica for an important bit of history I couldn't afford to own....but that's not me. I am a collector but I don't buy collectibles that are NIB.....I don't want to pay the premium just to fire it away at the range!

If they would function longer they would be less like the original, and probably worth less money.

I think you'd have to have more money than brains to pay $600 for a non original non collectors gun that originally cost the Government $2.40 in 1942 and that's only $32 in 2010 money according to Wiki.

No way would I get near that.

What I have to say right now isn't THR. Eventually this WILL belong to a son or grandson who knows nothing of the safety of the gun and they WILL get hurt.

I could get rich....i've built several things that have lasted 10 shots when I was a kid. But I ain't got no sense!

Nope. If someone is that into WW2 history that they want to blow 600 bucks on that, why wouldn't they save up and buy a real one?

I think its a silly idea that will end up costing whoever is trying to sell those guns some money.

Only a fool would pay $599 for something like that. There are rip offs, and then there's that. It's a freaking replica, I'd pay $50 tops. For $599 or less you could get yourself a modern, quality .45 handgun.

They could move the decimal point two places to the left and I still wouldn't buy one!! If you read the information on their website, the "firearm" doesn't ship in working order. Regardless, what a useless pile of crapola!!

"In light of the above mentioned facts relating to the relative safety of the FP-45 in general, we will not drill the firing pin hole completely through the cover slide. Therefore, our reproduction as shipped is technically incapable of firing and significantly safer than the original pistol. VINTAGE ORDNANCE IS NOT LIABLE FOR INJURY OR DEATH RESULTING FROM PURCHASERS MODIFYING OUR PRODUCT IN THIS UNAPPROVED MANNER."

Nah. I'd like to have a real one, but ain't gonna buy no non-firing repros. Ain't gonna pay $3k for a real one either. For the price of the repro, I'd rather buy a Garand from the CMP or numerous other guns.
