Starting tomorrow Cabelas has a sale on law enforcement trade in Glock 22s for $359.99 with two 15rd mags and a hard case. I looked at two today (which were Gen 2s) and put a hold on one to pick up tomorrow. Internally they looked very good but do have holster wear on the slide. Of course the one with the best internals and barrel had a lot more outside wear but I chose it anyway.

Anybody bought a Glock LE trade in? Anything else I should look for before buying? I was impressed how little wear the mating surfaces had, slide/barrel/frame. The bore looked excellent.

I'm curious why these pistols are traded in in the first place if they work properly. Maybe the officer wanted a Gen 3 for the dust cover rail which the Gen 2 doesn't have. Or maybe lots of officers are moving to the new Gen 4s? Or they want a more compact pistol?

Anyway, this seems like a fair price and I've been wanting to buy a full size Glock. Also have been wanting to try out the 40 S&W. I've long had 45ACP and 9mm pistols and the 40 S&W seems like a great compromise even though I've heard the S&W stands for Short&Weak.

Any comments would be appreciated!

I bought an LEO trade-in G21

Yeah, that thing was in pretty rough shape:

1. Holster dust, hand mud, and other goodies all over the inside and outside of the gun.
2. Night sights installed, but the front sight was not installed correctly, as the armorer told me when I had new ones installed.
3. Slide cover plate chewed up by a screwdriver, but was a quick $3 fix. At least I know that the slide had been cleaned out at least once.
4. Chewed up "LE/Govt use only" magazine. Again, user-replaceable.
5. I replaced the guide rod/spring ($7 fix)

Everything else is in pretty good condition--the barrel is especially clean. It's an old Gen3 model, but it's new to me now, and I'm really liking the way it handles. Hell, it's a Glock. It'll take more that the little things I found to make the gun not worth the deal I got on it.

Absolutely. My Gen 3 G22 was a police trade in that I purchased a few months ago.

It was in good shape, came with night sights and 3 mags. Got it for $350.

It's been 100% since day one with hundreds of various HP's and JHP's. It's dressed up with a Crimson Trace laser grip and serves as my nightstand gun.

It wasn't a beauty queen when it arrived, but who cares? It's a Glock and they were never supposed to be showpiece guns.

If it wasnt a 40 I would buy one.....

Still trying to find some Police trade in Glock 19s....

I bought a G17 in 1993 for my first LEO duty weapon that had been traded in, I think by Atlanta PD. It has a 3 digit serial #, and except for the pin that holds the trigger assembly in, is still today, original. It hasn't missed a beat.

LE trade-in Glocks are a great buy...I have a G19...and the additional upside is that Glock will update the internals if you are willing to pay to send it in and returned.

LE trade-ins are generally a good buy....I have 4 Sigs {(2) 220STs, (2) 226s}...and there is little that can really go wrong with a Glock. I actually prefer the Gen 2

Yes.

Many of the GEN2 22's are DPD guns (Detroit) bought in 1992.

They traded them because S&W gave them new M&P's/holster's/training/Etc. straight across for them.

I have bought a few. They are a great buy. They are rough on the outside, but usually have low round counts. I would change out all the springs, including mag springs.

I do recommend inspecting any used firearm for anything out of the ordinary.

LE trade-in's are often cosmetically not so great but don't let that fool you, they usually have a very low round count as they were carried far more than they were shot.

I didn't even want another .40. But I got such on a good deal on a like new police trade in that I couldn't say no. It honestly looked as if it had never been shot. I would prefer to see the actual product if possible before I bought though.

Hey thanks for all the great advice guys! I did buy the G22 and think it's going to be a fine pistol. Haven't taken a picture but it's not much to look at anyway. I don't care as long as it's reliable. Think it will be. Grabbed some Winchester 165gr FMJ FN and Federal 180gr FMJ FN and hope to get out to the range this week.

This definitely was an early bird only sale. I got to Cabelas at 8:15 and by about 8:45 when my number was called they had sold 7 of the 9 they had in stock. Was surprised they didn't have more especially since they made a big deal of it in their flyer. Glad I put a hold on mine yesterday or I wouldn't have got the one I inspected. No doubt they sold the last one soon after mine.

Anyway, I can't find anything wrong with it other than two dings on the slide rails but I can clean that up. Looks like something heavy fell on the slide and got both rails opposite of each other. More of an annoyance than anything else.

Excellent buy, usually more than 1 Advanced Glock Armorer on the agency who will take good care of them with fresh parts, trade-ins generally result from a new firearm contract between agency and Glock with a 3rd party selling them off, you got a good sidearm there for a great price.

picked up a couple of police trade in glock 17's 2nd gen in exellent condition about 2 weeks ago. night sites are a little dim but can change them. they were also cons. serial numbers also.

I bought one of the model 22's that were marked "Detroit PD" that were on the market last year. Rough on the outside, but in fine shape inside.
It was flawless, but did have that lousy NY trigger. It must have had a 50lb. pull on it. Replace the trigger and it's fine.

Hey, thanks for the help guys! I finally took pictures of the G22 so thought I'd drop them in. Not very pretty is she? :p But I think she'll be all right. Found a serial number database and the CCS prefix indicates a build date of December 1996.

I bet a lot of people my generation and younger think the Glocks are actually a pretty good looking gun as thats what we grew up wishing we could have.

You got a great purchase at a low price. I can't wait until I can get my hands on a handgun

Thanks again guys...

One thing I've noticed on this Glock, the front of the frame/dust cover area is bent up to where it just barely touches the slide. You can see the gap between the frame and slide disappear toward the very front. Doesn't seem to affect anything but I wonder if someone got whacked in the head with this gun.
