"As I recall, the PM9 was offered at $839 and has since dropped to about $550. Since the mold for the grip is about 100 grand, Kahr needed to pay for that mold by marking up the price for at least the first year. Once the mold is fully paid for (with 3-year tax write off), Kahr is now laughing all the way to the bank with the plastic grips coming in at under $10 apiece."

The CNC machining center that they use for the steel ones likely costs more than 100K. But you are right, they are laughing all the way to the bank with the plastic ones. They are now asking about $625 for them around my parts. PLEASE, give me a break! People that are paying that are doing so for the light weight, not for the value of the product. And, before anyone gets all over me about trying one etc.--I own an MK9, love it, and carry it often.

"Anyone who considers Kahr Plastic models 'junk' needs to probabiy shoot one, perhaps?"

Shot one, owned one. My statement stands. As much as I love the all steel Kahrs, the plastic ones are junk. Sometimes they work and the people that own them love them but that doesn't mean that they are made to the same high standards of the K series. The P series are crap. The K series are great. I have never seen such a night and difference in two variation on the same model as the steel and plastic Kahrs. Kind of makes me sick.:barf:

my PM9 fits in my front pocket

just like my j-frame smiths. Awesome, reliable, 6+1 9mm.

Yes, the "fascination" with lightweight carry pistols is real. I use a holster for S&W K-frame and up, and for 1911s. My PM9 and 340PD are pocket pistols, no holster required, (okay, maybe a $15 DeSantis Nemesis) and the light weight makes this possible.

I paid the "exorbitant" price for three Scandium J-frames (since sold two of them) so paying a premium price for a quality firearm does not scare me.

Kahr, want to build a titanium or scandium frame, alloy slide "SM45"? Might be some interest out there...
