OK I am going out on a limb here but..
Why doesn't Obama get rid of some of the crazy red tape and bureaucracy from our present gun laws before asking us to give up more.
I am pro 2A and an NRA life member but was wondering if people on this forum would be willing to bend on Magazine capacity if the draconian rules and red tape was removed from legitimate gun owners trying to buy a gun. Again this is just to voice thoughts on the issue. I know living in New Jersey it's a long and tying process to get a permit to purchase a handgun. The wait can run not weeks but months to get an ID card or a permit to purchase. These permits which take so long to get then expire and you have to go through it again the next time you want a handgun. I think its time they give us something before asking for more restrictions.

The wording in the Second Amendment is clear enough. There is no reason whatsoever to compromise.

It would be a meaningless as compromising on the First Amendment Freedom of Speech or the Thirteenth Amendment issue with slavery.

That's all NJ state stuff. Here in the Commonwealth of Virginia we don't have purchase permits and I've never had a firearm purchase (pistol or otherwise) take more than 10 minutes. Heck, getting my CHP took less than 6 weeks.

I'm all for creating a system that allows privates sellers to perform a background check if they choose, but not for making it mandatory.

No. What you have is a New Jersey problem. Don't take away from Nebraska to fix New Jersey.

And they and other states have done so. I assure anyone who wants to look that if you go back to the introduction and ratification of these state level gun laws, the words "reasonable" and "compromise" will have been used somewhere in the process as they made their way through the legislature.

No. Especially your example, where you propose giving up magazine capacity in the form of a federal law in exchange for doing away with state-level restrictions that would at best make NJ more typical compared to other states.

Well my suggestion is for you to move. I see no reason for any Texan to give up a Right so someone in NJ can have things easier.
