I'm 73. I've owned both long guns and handguns since I was 15 years old. I've never had a concealed carry permit because I never felt the need. Over the past couple of years I've thought several times that maybe I should go ahead and get a permit. Not really because I feel the need right now but because the way things are going I may change my mind later or "If for no other reason" if I came across a really good deal to buy a handgun I would not have to wait to get a purchase permit. My problem is =. I have never been arrested for anything. Never been charged with any crime. Never been accused of any crime what so ever. (Except speeding ticket or two). Never had my fingerprints taken for any reason. I don't think it's right to have to give my fingerprints to get concealed carry permit without at least some suspicion, some reason to think I'm not who I say I am. Dumb??? You have a right to be silent even if accused of a crime. A right to innocent untill proven guilty. A right not to testify against yourself. What's the difference in taking your fingerprints if not even suspected of doing anything wrong. Dumb??? I don't know. Just don't seem right to me and I can't get by that.

Just to buy a gun you have to sign a form testifying that you are not and never have been a criminal.
I think this is one reason why some states do not require a permit for concealed carry.

as a former trucker of 48 years, for me to obtain what is known as a TWIC card (transportation workers identification card) to get onto military bases or seaports, i had to be fingerprinted.

in my state, to obtain a CCW permit, i must be fingerprinted.

i am about as old as you..BUT most certainly newer to the sport/ownership of guns, to your years.

i see no problem with the requirements, to get what i want.

They took my fingerprints when I entered the military many years ago. They took them a second time when I got my carry permit also many years ago. Eh, I don't think it's that big of a deal really. My social sec #, mother's maiden name, make of my first car, the street I grew up on and my best friend's name are probably already on the net everywhere as are several user name and password combinations.

There's a lot of unfair in the world and IMHO there's about to be a lot more.

Advice: Get your carry permit while you still can.

Even though I first submitted my prints to the FBI when I was 21 for my permit, I was not happy about having to do so...did not beleive the story that they would be erased from the system...even windows saves "deleted files".

It is a chioce only you can make. You are not "dumb" in my book.

yea i think your right.
I was told the finger prints are required for the FBI background check that my state submits through. They had an official fee statement with a breakdown listing the FBI, so in that case it was certainly true.
FWIW, the reason for a permit here, in WA was that it significantly simplified going to and from ranges. The now gone (pay attention states that aren't in a trash heap yet) wait period exception was a nice add on as well. Its often said that a CPL significantly reduces your chance of pull-overs, and makes police friendlier. That does seem to be the case.

I was born Free in the U S A. Protected by the Constitution. Under the Constitution I (like everyone else) have certain Rights. Do not have to prove myself innocent. Especially of a crime I've not even been accused of. Giving my fingerprints is doing just that. Proving myself innocent of crimes Ive not even been accused of. I can't bring myself to do that. I can't give up any Right for any reason. Am I the last to think that way???

I've been fingerprinted for the following.

Activities as a Cadet in the Civil Air Patrol since we went onto military bases.
Enlisting into the US Army.
The Police Academy and the agencies I've worked for.
FL CCW Permit.
NFA Stamps.
