S&W 642 j-frame CCW
Hold 4 state CCW's, been carrying since Vietnam. Asked a young man of about 27 years old if he would mind not backing his commercial box truck into the tree at the rear of my property. Face on not threating or malice, etc. He said he did not realize he was hitting the tree and said he would move truck forward and be more attentive in the future. So far, so good. As I turned to leave my position 2 feet from drivers side of cab, I guess he spied my 642 peaking out from under my Izod SS shirt. I go back to the front of my house (60 ft. away & down hill) & continue to water the grass. He freaks, get his father and father calls 911 "man with a gun". Well 2 local PD units(whom I know & they know me) and 2 staties respond hell bent because of whatever the father told them. The one local slides up on my right rear 10 ft. away, just so I could peripheral vision him. Hi J____ what brings you out? Then I see the 2 troopers flanking the his rear & I said "sh__, who called you?" Well Mr. H_____ I guess you know the answer to that. Explained the situation to all officers, asked permission to place handgun in house.. granted. Went back out and said I politely asked about truck & tree. Did not realize there was a situation til you showed up. In mean time the father (not the son) is being questioned by PD & starts down hill to where we were talking (in my front yard). Father goes off on PD & trooper about my carrying, etc. YaDa, YaDa, YaDa, PD tells him I am LEGAL & did nothing wrong or improper. PD asks father to cool it. Father becomes more enraged & ranting. PD cuffs him. Tells him again to cool down & asks "if Mr. H_____ I was so far away from original action & watering lawn, how he perceives "man with a gun"? Almost charged him with making false 911 call, inciting a riot cause now the neighborhood is out to see the action. SO... my friends, you never know. The responsibility we bear in carrying is great, but so is the right that we have to do it legally & with great respect.
