Would you trade an FN Five Seven pistol for an FN FNP-45 Tactical?

This is an "if you could only afford one setup" type of thread.

The Five Seven has the 5.7X28 round, . . . high velocity, high capacity [20 rounds, with 30 rounds available w/ extention], flat shooting, low recoil, very controlable.

The FNP-45 Tactical, . . . Low velocity, good capacity for a .45acp [15 rounds], not flat shooting but not necessary, more recoil, less controlable.

Depends on how much you want the FNP Tactical. Its a great gun, very accurate, perfect grip angle and controls. A little on the bulky side though. I don't own one but I have shot one and have been considering getting one (vs the new XDM .45).

On the other hand, I do have a Five Seven with the 30 round extensions and it is super light fully loaded. Very accurate as well with the adjustable rear sight. The Five Seven one day will be a collector's item for sure and it is a nice gun to have and keep in the collection. For SHTF purposes, home/self defense it would not be my first choice, but if it was all I had I would not feel out gunned.

When it comes to the stopping power of the two rounds, yes the .45acp is better, but I can tell you I have killed 250lbs hogs with the 5.7x28 with well placed eye and ear shots (the .40gr blue tipped V-Max's expand and even fragement a little very well). Its all about shot placement with the Five Seven and how well you can shoot with it.

I have a serious urge for the Five seven.

1 man with 5/6 women living in his household.

Fun gun for me, Controllable gun for them.

No, the 5.7 is like anywhere from 7-900 dollars new and the FN45 is like what 650 new tops? The only way I would do it is if I was trading a well used 5.7 for a NIB FN45, with the accessory pack 3 mags and maybe some ammo. The 45 is a better handgun round IMHO I think the 5.7 is a great varmint round and it is cool to have 20 rounds and all but the 45 would be my choice for personal protetcion.

The FNP Tactical 45 mentioned by the OP is $900+ not $650. You are thinking of the regular FNP 45.

i would sell the 5.7 for as much as i could get for it, and attend a training course, or buy ammo and or reloading supplies for the guns that i have.

Personally, I think you are being silly. We're talking two completely different rounds with two completely different purposes. It would be one thing to ask, "Should I sell my 1911 and buy a FNP-45 Tactical."

Try sticking to the 5.7 and save up for the Tactical. Why not enjoy having both? :neener:

My mistake.

However, I just searched GunBroker to see what the 45 Tacticals are going for none of them listed have any bids and the starting price on some of them were as low as 870 so obviously looking at maket demand the 45 tactical is worth less than 870 dollars. Doing the same thing with the 5.7 the lowest price is 800 dollars and that auction actually had a bid so the 5.7 is worth at least 800 dollars or more.

So I guess dollar for dollar they are about the same. I say go with whatever best suits your purpose. 45 ACP ammo will become more widely available soon, can you say the same about 5.7 ammo? I actually think possum has the best suggestion in post #6.

Your choices in your poll should be yes or no period, I would keep the FiveseveN. You can pick and choose from literally hundreds of .45ACP pistols, only one will shoot the 5.7x28 round. Ammo prices are similar, but they are two different beasts, each with merits, there are better choices in .45 pistols that may be in the FiveseveN's price range. If you trade even for the FNP you are losing money IMO.
