Would you trade your GP100 6" blued .357 for a new Glock .40 Gen 4 model 23

I may have the opportunity to trade my GP100 .357 with six inch barrel (pictured) for a brand new G23 Gen 4 with mags, box of ammo, and holster (I have plenty of holsters - so this is of no value to me).

I have a G23, and several Glocks, and several revolvers. I am a fan of the Ruger GP100. I have the SP101 and the GP100 in 4".

I could possibly keep the 6" blued and trade a 4" blued. I think the 4" is better and more versatile though.

Would you make the trade?

If you hunt animals with a revolver, then I would keep the 6" GP100.
But if you're not a hunter who uses a handgun then I would do the trade.
In my humble opinion, outside of hunting, the 6" GP100 just isn't very practical.

I wouldnt trade my Taurus 9 shot 22 for a glock!

But if you wanna trade that Georgous GP100 for one I will go buy one! :D

Nice Pistol!

And easyg has a point! But I Hunt!

I wouldn't trade a blued anything for a Glock. A Glock is a garden variety, B-Flat, disposable, easily replaceable, tool. Nothing more. Go out shopping for a blued GP100 and you will find they are not as easy to come by.

I most certainly would NOT. I've already made that mistake. :( Now, I dream about once again buying another GP100 6". This time, however, I think I'll choose the stainless over the blued. :)

personally i wouldnt. glocks are easy to come by if the bug ever bites to get one, but you may find yourself missing the GP. as easyg said, the 6" is really only very useful if you hunt, but then again, i hunt. :)

A Glock is a Glock is a Glock. That is not saying Glocks are bad, no, they are quite good pistols. But, I would not trade a revolver for a Glock. I would also not want a .40 Glock. The few Glocks which are problematic seem to be chambered in .40 S&W and .45 ACP.

Admittedly, I do like the GP100 more than any handgun in the world. I have noticed that not all GP100s are uniformly smooth and sweet-shootin'. It can be hard to replace a particularly smooth GP100 with another equally as good. One can always find another Glock that is as good as any other Glock.

Both of these guns grow on trees. Neither one will go up in value, any more than inflation - at least for the foreseeable future. Unlike an old smith, Ruger GP100's are made just as well today as they ever were. Maybe better, because investment casting is still undergoing improvements. They're both easy to sell, and easy to replace.

A NIB, or even LNIB Gen4 G23 is worth more right now, and you might find the dual recoil spring and grip make it a better shooter than your current G23. And if your current G23 is older, you'll also get better chamber support, which might matter if you reload. But when LEO's start trading in their Gen4 G23's, the Ruger will probably come out on top, for resale value. But if you're really worried about value 10 years down the road, than why are you buying Rugers and Glocks to begin with?

For me, I only need a few autoloaders. The one's I like the best in each caliber are about all I ever want to shoot. The rest are redundant. So unless I shot my G23 a lot and thought a 4th gen would be even better for me, I'd keep the revolver! If the G23 is your "second tier" 40SW mid-size autoloader, then no way I'd trade. I'd rather collect revolvers I never shoot than autoloaders.

If I were to make the trade, I'd definitely keep the 4".

I'd only make that trade if I didn't have much 357 ammo on hand and had no way of getting more. The 357 is a versatile cartridge, and the GP100 is a stout platform from which to launch it.

Gah. I went to look at the Gen4 features and found that Glock still hasn't fixed their website [DNS] problem. I emailed them about it a couple years ago. You'd think they'd like people to be able to view their website... but then again, its somewhat lacking on modern content anyway.

I don't think I would trade but the Ruger to the right guy might be worth around $450 just because I don't see them often around here. I personally don't care much for the Ruger DA revolvers so it would have no attachment to me but I can and have bought a number of Glocks for well under $400 so I would try to buy the Glock for $375 or so and go for the money on the Ruger.
Just checked the op and saw it was a g4 Glock, I haven't even held one so take my comments above to be aimed at g2&3 Glocks.
Good luck

Well, in pure dollars and cents, the Glock 23, 120 rounds of ammo, 3 mags, and holster is probably around $500-$550. I can get them with a military discount for $400, but with taxes, shipping and FFL it's still around $450-475.

Now, the Ruger is used and worth probably $400, no more than $450 max.

But I'll likely use the G23 more frequently and ammo for the .357 is much pricier.
