Would you trade your GP100 6" blued .357 for a new Glock .40 Gen 4 model 23

Actually, when most people talk about the .357 Magnum, they do so with a proud admiration of their beloved round. Nobody talks about brave men and their proud .40's.

DO what you want with your gun but if I was you id keep to gp100 and get a glock later maybe a glock 20:D.

Forget it,do not trade your Ruger 6 inch for a $200 dollar Glockenspiel. Your blued GP100 is worth more than any Glock combined. We stopped selling Glocks and went to all Rugers in the wholsale department.

If you have the 4" then trade the 6" for the Glock. If you didn't already have the 4" I would say keep the 6". No proper gun collection should be without a GP-100.

The Glock is a better concealed carry gun, AND you CAN, with a barrel swap, shoot .357 (Sig, not magnum) out of the Glock, so the 'the Ruger is more versatile' or the '.357 is better than .40' arguments are moot.

If there was just one situation and a lot of empirical and scientific evidence; there would be but one pistol and one caliber. That isn't the case. I like Glocks, have several, but you already have a G23 so I'd keep the GP100. It looks like a nice revolver and I have many of them as well.

I'm surprised more folks wouldn't take the Glock. No, the G23 is NOT a $200 gun. It's a $450 gun with about $50+ worth of ammo/accessories.

Well, much against the advice of nearly everyone here, I traded away the GP100 6" blued for the G23 Gen4. Here it is and another picture along side of her little sister G23 Gen3.

Yes. The GP100 is too large and heavy for the cartridge it's chamber for.

Not a single person would trade the revolver for the glock?
Oh, I was just making hypothetical arguments for and against. For me, personally, I'd trade.

But:

The Gen4 G23 is on my short list.
I do not own a G23 of any generation.
I do not get a police/military discount on Glocks, so my cost for a Gen4 Glock is a bit higher than for a GP100 in minty condition.
I don't like a full underlug on a 6" barrel, esp in a heavy .357.

Seems you already decided, but just to toss it out there, every gun I've gotten rid of in recent memory, I regret getting rid of. So for me, I am certain what I buy is first of all, what I want/need, and secondly, I don't get rid of them anymore.

Well, I may be the last guy onto the raft, but I ...

... own 4 G-s now, and reload for them and Love the whole G-series. But I would never trade that G- of yours for the revolver you mention. It takes an entirely different collection of mind-sets to use a revolver properly. You need both skills. Pass on the deal, I mean if both guns are up for sale. G- "improves Perfection" from time to time; the revolver you mention is already apexed, and just as dependable as any Glock. Dao.

Well it was a tough decision. But I figured I'd just frankly get more use and value from the G23 (even though I have one already). I don't hunt, and I use a G35 (.40) for my HD handgun. The Ruger isn't practical to carry and is way too loud (.357) to shoot indoors without hearing protection for home defense. With the G23 I picked up a holster (actually one that will work well afterall) that is universal for most Glocks, $30 in ammo, and 3 more mags ... along with what appears to be a fine new G23...

Not feeling I need to justify it, but just fun to discuss it. Interesting that most folks would keep the Ruger.

Well, you already had one example of each (2 GPs and a G23), so really it is up to you. But I will say that "tough decisions" have a habit of coming back to haunt you, at least that is what I've experienced, even with ones I didn't think were that tough at the time. In some cases it can take years before the regret shows up. I'm just now starting to regret selling a 6" Taurus 66 .357 Mag from 5 years ago. I certainly hope you don't experience the same.

Honestly though, if you ever get to missing that 6" GP, you could always replace it with a completely different 6" .357, or any other revolver for that matter (6" S&W Model 19 .357, 3" Model 13 .357, 4" or 6" Ruger Six series, etc).

Hmmm...

I'd do it.

I am a Ruger revolver guy, but I'd do it.

If you can only have one handgun for defense, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

The Ruger is a great utility gun, but in a defense situation, you will not shoot as accurately with a long, heavy trigger pull. With only six shots, I think that Ruger is a decent defense gun, but not a good one.

The Ruger would probably be better as a woods carry gun, and certainly is a better hunting gun.

The Glock would be a better gun for defense because of the trigger and the capacity.

I personally would get a M&P pistol instead, but there is nothing wrong with the Glock. They are great guns as well.

I just traded into a G22 Gen 4, cost me an LCP and some cash, I have to say the G22 is a darn nice gun to shoot. But, we also own a GP100 which I love to shoot also. Knowing what I know now, I would not trade one for the other, I'd own them both.

Well this has been a great discussion and I appreciate everyones' feedback!

As somone mentioned, I'd take the G23 over the Ruger in a defensive situation due to the capacity and frankly my higher level of training on a Glock platform over a revolver.

No doubt, they are both fantastic handguns. I'll admit this was a tough decision and I stewed on it for awhile. I hope I don't come to regret the trade.

I hope the person you traded to at least bought you flowers and dinner before he ... ......well you know!

YOU GOT SCREWED!!!!

Money wise, in my parts that was actually a very good deal (New G23 Gen IVs sell for mid to high 500s, and used 6" GPs go for $425 or so retail). Not sure if the OP had to put any $$$ into the trade or not though.

Still, I'd have personally kept the GP as I'm not a Glock guy, but that's me.

No. Nothing wrong with Glocks, but I bought my GP100 because it fits me and fits it's purpose. I would have bought a Glock if I wanted one.
