XD.40 Vs Sig p229 .40

I was all set to buy a new p229 in .40 then my buddy who is always pushing his XD on me let me take one last go at it. I like the way both shoot and I like the feel of them both. I know I will eventualy end up with both but for a primary ccw carry which would you choose.

I have both a 229 and an XD. The 229 is a much better handling gun, and it seems to be much higher quality. I'd go with the Sig.

Sig is the "better" gun, but it should be considering it's gonna cost 300 bucks more. The XD is a fine gun though. I shoot my XD better than I shoot my P220.

SIG's Classic P-Series Pistols

SIG's are probably the most accurate, out of the box DA/SA handgun that one
can buy here in the USA. However, there is nothing wrong with Springfield's
XD line either. Both, should shoot just 'bout the same, as both have a high
bore axis; of which I prefer. Do your part, and both are capable of shooting
"lights out" with NO problem~!

for the money i would take the xd, which is one of the reasons that i don't have an h&k or a sig, my xd's do everything that i want and need them to do. and they do so at a much less price point than the other brands. yes all handguns have there weknesses and the sigs are nice, but i have no issues trustig mine and the lives of my family to the xd line.

I have a 229 in 9mm, and another in .40. I had an XD9. I know it's not exactly what you asked, since I never shot an XD in .40, but they are all fine guns, and I could shoot any of them equally well.
I didn't mind the XD at the range, but for carry I always chose the Sig. Not because of accuracy or reliability issues, the XD was perfect, but just my own personal phobia. I like the longer heavier DA pull of the Sig on the first shot. I know it doesn't bother a lot of people, but it was my little mental monster.

I completed the Farnum course with a Sig, (not the 229) and being lefthanded I then went out and bought several XDs (two 40s and a 45) over the following 3 years. They are different weapons but both are fine weapons. I felt the Sig was a higher end unit but the XD is no slouch. If not for the decocker I would probably have a Sig in .40 for carry and the XD would be my truck pistol.

Seriously, what matters is what you are good with. I don't think you can go wrong with either, for me if it comes down to price go XD.

I have 2 XD's in .40 and LOVE them. I also have a 229 in .40 and love it. This is one of those questions that you just can't go worng. Do what most seem to have done and buy one of each.

This is a well timed thread. I am considering getting a P229. I have an XD and a glock. Both have been rock solid on reliability. However, I wanted to try a higher end pistol and the Sig caught my interest. The only other pistol I have that would be considered high end is an HK P7M8 which is very accurate and very reliable.

The XD is a fine weapon, but Sig's build quality is noticeably better.
