I was thinking of getting a XD-9 subcompact for concel carry.
Is it too wide?
Is the holster it comes with anygood for carry?
Does it shoot good with a short barrel?
Should I get the 40 cal?
Wolud I still carry my snuby 38 more because its easyer to carry?
I have a P-95 now do I need another 9 mm
I already have a LCP on order.

I keep wanting more guns never happy with the ones i have is this normal? My wife thinks I'm crazy.

I had the XD9SC for awhile. I had to put the finger extension baseplate on the mags to make it feel right for me. I carried it for several months and put a few hundred rnds through it. Very accurate for it's size and recoil was mild in the 9mm platform. In the end I found alot I didn't like about it. Felt too top heavy and really didn't conceal any better than a Glock 19 did for me, plus the grip safety didn't inspire confidence during rapid draws. I have a fullsize XD45 and the grip safety is fine during rapid draws. On the SC though it felt like I may not engage it fully when rapidly drawing the weapon from concealment. In the end I got rid of it and don't really miss it. If you are comfortable with it and it fits you, it's a nice reliable platform.

MadMerc hit the nail on the head with reasons why I sold my XD9sc away, too. Felt top heavy and, even for its size, it just didn't conceal right for me, but I can conceal my larger Glock 19 quite a bit better.

I did like the gun though. It was reliable and very accurate for that 3" barrel. If you're going to be shooting out to longer distances, then, like any short barrel weapon, it will probably let you down. Shoot it at distances that it's designed for (CCW distances) and it holds nice, tight groups.

I wouldn't discard the thought of getting one based on our summaries. Try to find a place that will let you rent one, or at least see if they'll let you put one in a holster and see how it will conceal on you.

BTW, the XD Gear holster is crap for anything other than walking around the farm, etc. I've read lots of stories of guys falling in the woods and the XD falling out of the holster on rocks, or in the stream, etc. If you're going to CC a firearm, any firearm, IMHO, spend a little more money on a decent holster.

And 9mm is what I carry, and I don't feel out-gunned. .40 is a nice round, but a bit more snappy. I don't remember the capacity of the XD40sc, but I know the 9sc allows 10+1. In most frames, you start losing capacity when you go up in caliber. If you can shoot whatever round is in your gun accurately, then capacity doesn't mean as much. But, in a multiple attacker scenario, you might wish you had 2 or 3 more rounds. Modern 9mm self-defense ammunition does a great job from what I've seen. It's purely your choice! :)

I love mine. I've been carrying it for about 2 years, hides great in a Crossbreed Supertuck. I shot 3 IDPA matches with it, to get used to drawing from concealment. I like the grip safety, you can re-holster without touching it, and not have one of those Glock ADs.

I've used the XD9sc for CCW for almost 3 years. Absolutely dependable and reliable. The short barrel has not made any difference in accuracy while shooting IDPA with this pistol, it may even be quicker on the draw because of the shorter length. For summer though I shifted to a Kahr PM9 because I found the XD to be a little too thick for IWB carry with only a t-shirt to cover, but then a skinnier person might have different results. :D

The 40 in the SC gets very snappy, not uncontrollable but it takes more practice. I've owned both and settled on the 9 with a converted 40sc mag which gives me 12 rounds as opposed to 10 for carry. The holster that comes with the gear pack is not a good choice for CCW, barely decent for range use. Lots of better choices out there.

Thanks, what I want is a small 9 for conceled carry and the KAHR's are just not reliable enough for me,too many people have problems.I would feel safer with my taurus 85 five shots for sure.
I will be getting the LCP soon.
Is KAHR the only one that makes a thin 9mm besidesa Roghbough(don't know if spelling was correct).

You can try KelTec PF9. It was ok, but the Kahr (CW9 & PM9) was better, hands down.

Xd9sc

As others have said, the XD9SC is reliable and accurate. I shoot it regularly at 50 feet and it for a short barrel it does as well as any other semi auto I have with 5 inch barrels. I carry it concealed in an IWB and have no problems. I also have no problems with the grip safety. It is the same mechanism as all the other models so I don't understand some of the previous comments. No pistols is right for everybody, so whatever.

+1 on the question above. Of course it feels top heavy empty. Mine is very well balanced when I have the 10 or 17 round mag in.

1)not to wide for me, i have an carry an xd sc .40 and i love it. i carry it iwb normally.
2) they are alright but i wouldn't use it, i would get a nice blade tech, don hume or other nice made holster and use that. my iwb is a grandfather oak and i like it alot.
3)it shoots very good, the short sight radius makes it really quick on target and i am still impressed with how accurate and controlable it is to shoot.
4) if you already had an xd in .40 then i would say yes so you could use the same mags in both but if not 9mm is cheaper to shoot.
5) that is for you to descide
6) same as above

no you are not crazy

I think any XD is a good choice for CC.Mine is both a Compact .45 and Sub Compact .40...I have 9mm,it is a bit top heavy but with the 17 round mag it balances nicely.

Practice...it'll work for you if its what you want.

I don't want to buy a gun that I will have to use the customer service and pay shipping and all, thats why I have not got a KHAR,on reviews it looks like 1/3 of the people send there gun back at lest once.

I was thinking of getting a XD-9 subcompact for concel carry. - excellent choice
Is it too wide? - that really depends on you, i have the XD40sc (same size gun) and have no issues with concealing it (i use a comp-tac CTAC)
Is the holster it comes with anygood for carry? - no
Does it shoot good with a short barrel? - far better than i expected, i am by no means a great shot and i can make respectable groupings with it at 30-40 ft (usually 2.5-3" groups after 4 mags, firing off hand at about one round per second, 1.5" groups are possible if i take my time), i have gone to a few pin shoots with it and done ok :D
Should I get the 40 cal? - completely up to you, the 40 is a LOT snappier though (and more expensive to feed)
Wolud I still carry my snuby 38 more because its easyer to carry? - doubtful, but who knows
I have a P-95 now do I need another 9 mm - variety is the spice of life, and the XD is a damn fine gun
I already have a LCP on order. - completely different animal

I keep wanting more guns never happy with the ones i have is this normal? My wife thinks I'm crazy.
- this is completely normal

and i also got the finger extensions for my short mags, made a BIG difference in comfort
