Anyone use a Springfield Armory XD-9? If so how do you like it and is there a 9mm you like better and why?
How do you feel about the fact that it is always ready to shoot? Cocked and locked mode for CCW seems risky to me.

Great news as I want it for CCW. Can get them here pretty reasonable.

I shoot an XD9. It's more accurate than you are... unless your a master or grandmaster... or bullseye shooter... I usually come in 1st or 2nd in our local USPSA matches with it. have close to 3500 rounds through it and haven't had a single malfunction... Come on over to xdtalk.com and browse our forums for a while if you want more information... :)

FWIW, I shoot my XD sub comp 9mm better than ANY of my 9mm's, that's including my Glock 34. Really like the little sub comp 9mm. I got it for ccw, compared it to a Glock 26. Walked out with the XD.

I am a grandmaster at three martial arts, including Ninjutsu. As a part of our advanced training the sensei's give us an XD-9 and instruct the noob students to try and disarm us. Of course, I'm so good that I can throw the gun up in the air, do three tactical back spin kicks and neutralize the students, catch the gun and hit five softballs at 50yds.

Yes, the XD's are fabulous weapons. Get yourself a homedefender in the flavor of XD 45 with a longslide. You won't regret it.

Scottw, if it fits your hand and you like the control layout I think it would be a fine carry gun. I've fired a friend's XD-40 and I rather liked the trigger and 1911-like grip angle. He reports that it's been utterly reliable. There are lots of quality 9mms out there so just find one that fits your hand your budget.

The XD platform finally turned me on to the polymer frame auto. It's plenty accurate and dead reliable. My XD9 is a great shooter but I'm thinking about ordering the 9mm kit for my .40 Tactical. Buy one and have fun.

It may always be "ready to shoot", but you have basically two overt safety mechanisms to keep it from firing "accidentally". One is a grip safety and the other is a light and smooth, but loooong DAO-like trigger pull. It is NOT a "hair trigger" by any means.

The loaded chamber indicator that pivots up slightly on top of the slide is also nice because you can feel it in the dark. Likewise with the cocked indicator that sticks out the back of the slide when the weapon is cocked.

When you ask people about the XD, invariably someone will comment on "the rust issue", so just be aware that all XD pistols manufactured since April (maybe late March) have the Melonite finish.

go look for yourself

I have one, and I like it alot...however, unless you see how it fits your hand, you cannot know if it is the right pistol for you or not.
