I'm in the market for a new poly pistol. From my homework and budget (sub $500), these are two of the three I'm considering. I realize the differences are great: .45 vs 9mm, SA vs DA/SA, XD is blockier and SP2022 a bit more svelt.

But, comparing physical sizes per manufacturer's websites, they are quite similar: both barrels are about 4", both weigh about 30 oz empty, OAL is just over 7.3", capacity is even pretty close with the XD's larger mag.

Right now Buds has the SP2022 in a package deal with a Sig laser and nightsights for less money than the XD compact (which, sadly, seems to be out of stock).

On paper, they compare favorably - how about real world? I really like the XD; seems like I would like the SP2022, too. Haven't found one to rent, yet. How's the DA trigger pull compared to a Sig 250?

Thanks,
Q

I'm not familiar with the SP2022, but it being related to the P220, 226 or 228 can't be a bad thing.
I know I love my XD-45 service model!

There's a reason folks aren't familiar with the SP2022......it's not very popular. Few, if any, DA guns will compare to the 250's trigger pull.

Get the XD. Also, check out the S&W M&P .45 Compact while you're at it.

SP2022 that "I HAD" the trigger would brake at 10 lbs. I have seen folks that said they broke at 12lbs. Long trigger and long reset, think Sig 250 CRAPOLA.

I would get a XD hands down, smooth light trigger and short reset when compared to the SP2022.

I have Had a P239 and P232, happy with both, but the SP2022 needs to be relegated to the garbage bin of the unsuccessful, as in BREN 10

I have the XD9. Of all of my handguns, the XD9 is my favorite. It points naturally, has great ergonomics, shoots staright, and NEVR jams. Because of these, I am thinking aslo of the XD compact 45. I have the Sig P220 carry in 45 and Taurus PT145, but am still seriously considering the XD 45 compact.

Sig is great stuff and has a good trigger.

The other pistol has a very high bore axis imo.

But in the end both are good. It depends on what you shoot best. :)

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I own both.

The XD is a fantastic gun, but for the price of the Sig 2022 through Buds' right now... you can't beat it. FULL interchangable backstrap, night sights to boot!... The comfort of the 2022 FOR ME is a tad better than the Xd... the XD's bore does sit up higher but as a whole, the XD feels Slimmer and smaller than the Sig 2022. The sig is CHUNKY which is what i would say is its only downfall if you plan on carrying it.

You can't go wrong with either but you gotta choose what you are going to do... If you were looking for a carry gun or self defense gun, id go with the XD because of the .45.... just looking for a target gun thats cheaper to shoot get the sig.

COMPLETELY different guns.

The SIG MUST be carried DA - long pull then short, crisp, light pulls. This takes more training, and you may never be a quick two/three shot guy. The 2022s I held had DECENT/GOOD SA pulls. But again, long DA to start with.

The XD 45C I liken to a short DA for EVERY pull. It is consistent, and you carry it without a safety - so, pull and shoot, and every shot is consistent. And... its a 45 - 10 rounds in compact mode (no bigger than a CZ PCR), and 13 with the mag extensions. Its a great gun.

On the bore axis thing, It is higher than a Glock but no higher than a CZ - not the bore to web measurement!

I shot both (2022 and XD9 not 45). I love Sig pro, the next polymer pistol I got will most likely be it (before they run out on me).

Quoheleth - What's the third pistol you said you're considering? As other have said - these are two different pistols. Kinda comparing apples and oranges. The SP2022 fits my hand better than the XD, but that's just me. The calibers are totally different. XD=.45 vs. SP2022 in your choice of 9mm/.40/.357sig

The triggers are very different. The SP2022 is DA/SA, while the XD is DAO. The SP2022 DA trigger is smooth and light, with a reset less than the XD - and it's SA trigger pull is short, crisp and light. The XD trigger pull is fairly light and smooth, is always the same (DAO) and has a full stroke reset.

I'm used to the DA/SA mode, and actually prefer it. But again that's me. You'll need to consider which mode best suits you.

I'll confess to having a Sig bias - with a P220, two P225/P6s, P226. P228 and P229, and carry Sigs daily.

Leaving that aside, the XD is a .45 cal DAO, higher bore axis and different grip/"feel" than the 2022, which is DA/SA, lower bore axis and comes in 9mm, .40S&W or .357SIG.

I agree with others that these are very different guns.

I own the P2022 and it is as a very nice gun. It has a long DA pull but it is smooth. I have not put a scale on it but I would say it is around 10 LBs as it should be. The SA is slick. Nice and crisp. The DA is more of a revolver pull. It is IMHO light years better than the trigger on the P250.

I have shot the XD but never been a huge fan. They are good guns but they simply do not turn me on.

I am biased towards Sig. I own several like the P228 x2 /P220/ P226/ Sp2022/ I used to own a P226 navy. P226 tactical. P239. P229. Gen 1 Sig GSR. P220 X3 well you get the picture.

Right now the best on the Sig is at CDNN. They are $399 plus shipping. 2 Mags, 2 back straps and night sights. Most of the time the lasers they give away are worth exactly what you pay for them.
