Hello, everyone.

I went out on what is likely to be my last range trip for awhile as law school starts back up again on Monday. Anyhow, this time, to shake things up a bit, I decided to RENT an XDm 4.5 inch in 9mm and pit it against my trusty Glock 17 (with almost 14,000 rounds thru it) and my newish XD-3" Sub compact in 9mm. Here are the results. Please note, the center target is the XDm on all three targets. I was unable to bring the gun home with me for pics as it was a rental.

7 Yards, 15 shots each target

15 Yards, 10 shots each target

7 Yards, two rapid fire "mag dumps" each target

And Finally, my good ole Glock 17 by herself at 25 yards

My thoughts: Well, I don't know what happened to me with the XDm at 15 yards. Maybe it's just me, but I can tell a difference between the XDm trigger and the regular XD trigger...and I think I prefer the regular vanilla XD trigger. Oh well, any thoughts I had about selling my Glock 17 are put to bed. The thing's dead nuts reliable, and I shoot it well enough.

Comments welcome!!!!

A few days ago. I rented a Glock 19 and my brother brought his XD sub. We both shot the XD better but just a little. I'm now going to buy a new XDM compact. IMO the trigger is better on the XD then the Glock

Good shooting....
Thanks. Not gonna win any ribbons, but I'm getting better!

Were you equally familiar and practiced with all three?
Nope.

-Nearly 14,000 rounds thru my Glock 17, which I've owned since 2004.
-Exactly 650 rounds thru my XD9-Sub Compact. See http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=588930
-And I'd never shot an XDm until today.

Now, the fact that I'm ALOMST doing as well with the XDm 4.5 inch after only 50 rounds in a rental situation means that I'm sure I'm innately better with an XDm, but my Glock's been around the block with me and back again, and has been nearly perfect with through all of those 14k rounds. Can't/Won't ever sell her.

I agree that XDs have better triggers. Maybe I'm a weirdo, but I thought I could tell a difference between the triggers on my XD9-sc and the XDm 4.5 incher that I rented. I think I prefer the XD trigger. But I feel like I'd need more than 50 rounds in a rental situation to figure that out.

You didn't need to do this 'shoot off' to see that your Glock whoops the competition. I know mine does. Good shooting.

^My Glock 17 is a damn good gun, no question. However, it took me quite a bit of time to "get" the Glock trigger...and even after almost 14,000 rounds...can't say that I've mastered it yet. The XD trigger system is just easier for me to shoot well.

That said, I'll never sell the Glock. I shoot it "good enough" and its just been with me forever, and the damn thing just keeps on running and running.

I'll put my XDm 3.8 Compact .40 up against a Glock 27. A shooter with equal experience on both guns will see equal results. Same holds true for the XDsc verses the Baby Glock. They are all great modern guns as the Original Poster proves.

I know I was just being sarcastic and a 'fan boy'. Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. To each his own, YMMV

No offense taken, no feathers ruffled. Just pulling for my team same as you. Had a great day at the range today, hope you did too!

Finally got out and shot my new (3rd gen?) Glock 17 today vs my 92FS. I shot about 4 mags per gun. I was very impressed! It went toe to toe with the 92FS from 50ft out to 75 yards. No pics to show, but my groups were quite good. I plan to go back and repeat and get photos and data for a later post. Only bought it because have a carbine that uses G17 mags, and for all the hype it gets as a SHTF EOTWAWKI gun. Bottom-line, I've really warmed up to my (first) Glock.
