Shot my new xdm 45 4.5 the other day. Not to impressed with it's alleged match grade barrel. I really feel like my buddies xd9sc would smoke my 45 in accuracy. Maybe I'm not a handgunner.. Anyone else semi dis appointed with their xdm??

Based on your signature you own some very well-made handguns. I doubt the "match" barrel is measurably better than the barrels on your other handguns.

At what range, ammo, and stance? I have yet to meet someone who can outshoot your average pistol. A combination of how a person holds a pistol, trigger pull, sights, etc all affect accuracy. If were are talking a bench rested rifle that's one thing. Pistols held in the hand and shot under 15 yards in most cases are all going to have close to the same absolute accuracy.

It's likely that you as a shooter shoot other guns more accurately. I know I can shoot cheap 22lr ammo out of my cz 75's conversion, into a dime sized group at 7 yards. I convert it to 9mm and I struggle to shoot anything near that. I think it has to do with the fact the 22 has target sights. Or maybe my 9mm ammo I shoot is less accurate then me (doubt it). Same trigger pull/grip/etc between the two. Obvious something is at work.

My XD45 seems pretty accurate.

Shooting my standard .45ACP reload at 20 yds, I usually get groups like this one:

I don't know what accuracy you're looking for and what you're getting, but my XDm 40 will run 2.5" all day long at 25 yards with the right ammo. Of course they say the barrel is "match," but this isn't a target pistol. For a service pistol it does as well as most anything else.

I just stand comfortably, right foot forward a tad,(I'm left handed) body slightly angled. I guess I need to play with it a bit more. 25 yards seems like a mile with a handgun!
@ Minnesota wild & Japle those are awesome groups! That's what I'm looking for!

I have several handloads that will shoot 1.5" groups @ 50' through my XDm. For a service pistol I find it very accurate. ;)

If 25yds seems like a "mile" away, then don't bother. Start at like 10yds. When you can make one ragged hole, step out to 50'.
Most of the combat style pistols I've shot can hold a 3 to 4" group @25yds if the shooter is capable.
I shot one of the new XDm 5.25 9mm's a couple weeks ago. It'll shoot 1 1\2" groups @50'.

YeahI can shoot better with different! I just put 100 thru it at 10 yards and it shoots right... So now I've just Kentucky windaged it and I'm hittin middlish.
I think for now I should work on just tightening my groups, not blowing out the bullseye. I don't know...

Focus on using just the pad of your index finger on the trigger. If you put the joint of the finger on the trigger it seems to push/pull the muzzle.

The XDm will shoot about the same as the XDs, which is to say good combat accuracy. The XDm trigger is better in reset, but not a big difference otherwise.

I have 5 XDs and the 9SC is the easiest to shoot for just about everyone. My daughter chose it when I offered to give her any one she wanted (dang). Just keep working on trigger control, you'll get it.

abso-freakin-lutely not :D I shoot my XDM45 4.5 better than any other service sized gun I've tried regardless of caliber. you may just have to go rent a XDM9 at the gun range and get good with it them move up to your XDM45

One thing I have done to really help my XDm is change out the trigger. The groups I noted above are also off a rest; there's no way I can shoot that off-hand like it seems that you're trying to do.

If your sight needs to be drifted, DO IT! Nothing more annoying than adjusting your POA to hit the center.
You may also want to try adjusting your grip. Trigger pull can also affect your POI.

Good luck, I'd bet your XDm is more accurate than you think it is.

Thanks guys! This info is awesome! I'm down at the deer lease now so as you guys reply I'm trying different things!

Hate to argue with niner4tango here BUT, he might have it backwards (or rather XDs do). I was having accuracy issues. Someone with a bit more XD experience told me to try putting MORE finger on the trigger (not just the pad like I'd been training for YEARS). Low and behold, things improved. The XD trigger can be "unique."

I was disappointed with my XDm .40 because I didn't know when I bought it that it didn't have 6 o'clock sights. I was shooting low until I did some research. Now I'm doing better, but covering the target with your sights just seems so arbitrary to me. I'm going to switch the sights out when I can.
I recently picked up an XDsc .40 and I am much better with it.
Love how the XDm shoots, just not crazy about the sights.

I just shot my new xdm .40 compact 3.8 yesterday. At 15 yards it will shoot 1.25 inch 6 shot groups. That's with me standing and the best 6 shot group of the day. My average group at 15 yards is around 2 to 3 inches. If I had sights designed for longer range and if I was using my extended mag I probably could shoot better consistently. At 25 yards probably around 5 inch groups shouldn't be a problem for me.

With more practice you should be able to do the same. One thing nobody mentions about accuracy is that accuracy is nothing but consistency. That same hand hold, trigger pull, eye in the same place, etc are what will give you a good group. Anytime you slightly change anything your shot will be off. When you shoot heavier calibers most people will have a flinch, and or change their hand placement every round due to the recoil moving the gun in their hands. This makes consistency very difficult.

In .45 I own a XDm with Powder River trigger job and TruGlo TFO sights, Ed Brown Kobra Carry, and Kimber Ultra CDP II. All shoot pretty much the same for me. I like the XDm because of the capacity. The Kimber is the most natural pointer for me. Why the Ed Brown? Just because it is beautiful.

@340pd My dream carry gun is an Ed Brown Kobra Carry..

I guess i'll buy more ammo and hit the range.. I didnt know or notice the sights on the xdm are adjustable..

Do it. My XDm is the primary house gun. In an emeregency the XDm is the ONE gun I would keep. Lots of rounds in the mag. Practice.

I think it might be user error ;)

There were several published accuracy testing of XD45s in many gun magazines and the various factory and handloads tested produced on better average 1.5"-2.5" five round shot groups at 25 yards. One handload combination produced the smallest shot group of 3/4" at 25 yards. That was impressive as 1.5" and smaller shot groups are match grade 1911 territory.

I almost planned on buying a XD45 but bought a M&P45 instead because I shot a lot of SWC reloads and XD45 had known extraction issues. Newer XDM45 has angled slide rib near the breach end and feeds/extracts SWC reloads without problem.

Interested in the .45 XDm as well.

As far as trigger finger goes, the rule of thumb (!?) is to have your trigger finger parallel to the frame. Experiment while dry firing with your trigger finger in different locations on the trigger. Find the spot on the trigger where the front sight doesn't quiver during and after the trigger pull.
