Went into YGS yesterday to transfer an out of state shotgun. I was informed that I had two options:

1) Have the private seller ship the firearm directly to me like it were a FTF
2) Have the private seller go to an FFL who could ship directly to the FFL at YGS who could then transfer it to me

Luke at the gun counter informed me that it's totally legal for the private seller in a different state to send the firearm directly to me. He also said that he could only send his FFL information to another FFL if we wished to use an FFL for the transfer.

This kind of blatent disregard for not knowing the laws, and telling customers to do something illegal is why I will no longer give YGS any of my business. We all know that a private seller must ship the firearm directly to an FFL for inter-state deals... I wish YGS would not give there customers advice that could land them in prison for a very long time.

On a positive note, Debos Pawn knew how to perform a legal transfer, and charged $10 less than YGS :D They will be doing the rest of my current and future transfers.

Oh, fahchrissake.

Okay. You're smart.

The darn rules are so convoluted, and they change so often. The -nice- thing to do would have been to tell them that the rules are different, and offer to help 'em find 'em.

NOT trash the outfit all over th' interwebz...

That is a harsh position to take.....
Yeah, they were
ignorant
retarded
stupid
(check all that apply)
Lighten up.....I'm sure some sunglass wearing suits will go check on 'em.

Out of curiosity have you tried to contact the management about the issue in person or by mail? While I'd hope any gun shop would be more on top of the laws than that, ignorance of them doesn't mean they're bad guys. I'd hate to see some good guys have to close up shop because they didn't fully understand the law.

I'll tell you these rules are so confusing. I spent a day try to ship a pistol home that my father wanted to give me out of state. I was told many differnt things by the FFL's I found one that new the law & My Father had it shiped the right way.

Car Knocker beat me to it. That there must be a RECIEVING FFL in the buyer's state is the only requirement, and it hasn't changed in 40 years... The 1968 GCA. (BTW... Happy anniversary folks!)

I would probably ask to have a polite conversation with the owner of the store to see if it was just a "training issue" before I went off telling the internet. However, that guy at YGS was screwing up the most basic piece of the FFL rules and transfer regs there are.

And it's either a very large case of ignorance, or it's willful deciet on the part of the shop to try and discourage transfers in favor of selling their own stock. Which would be fair enough, just refuse to do it, or raise the price, but it's not ethical to give incorrect legal information to do so.
