Yes, they do want to take your guns

Perfect. Allow weapons only to the very same potential oppressors the second amendment was drafted to be a check against. This is exactly, precisely, 180 degrees opposite of what the framers intended.
You are 100% right. The only time I saw the 2nd used as intended was at the Bundy ranch. The 2nd aint about carrying in the shower

It is a surprise to me that so many politicians in the US made such clear, blatant public comments about either confiscation or forced-buybacks.

Most of these comments were probably made after Newtown (?). Imagine how many gun-owning sportsmen still don't believe that we need the services of the NRA. We can defend the Sec. Amendment as an army of one.
Some "reasonable" gun control laws were backed by the NRA. they are politicians now

The times they are a changing in. Just as these politicians demonstrate their crazed personnel agenda. We have science on our side. Soon you will be able to make your own guns in the privacy of our homes with 3d printers, or other methods that are being invented as we speak.
Also does anyone think that it is possible to round up the probable half billion guns out there already?
Wars are fought over less than this, and if pushed to the wall, another one will be waged internally next time that may just last a few days or weeks to settle this once and for all.
I don't know anyone who is going to just hand in their guns, they may hand in one old broken pistol, but the rest will be hidden away until needed, and neither the military or police are going to start shooting their neighbors because some idiot in Washington or his state capitol told him to go into millions of homes and take everyone's gun.
If this were 1960 maybe they would have a shot at taking peoples guns, but now, it's mainstream to own guns. The preacher, teacher, doctor everyone , has a gun. They aren't about to give them back, and the Govt, couldn't possibly even buy them back "not that it would happen", but seriously people paid tens of thousands of dollars "in some cases" for these articles, you can't just steal their property.
They saw the resistance they met with the Assault rifle nonsense, do you think, that they think, that they could pull this off. There would be a revolution for sure.
People will only take so much, and then they will fight back, heads would roll, the government would be removed from power, some military person would assume power and new elections would be held. It happens everyday someware in this world, and it's happened here also. History repeats itself. All the men and women who died protecting our rights did so because we are a free nation. Once those freedoms are rescinded, all bets are off.
Once you start screwing with the Constitution, the whole thing falls apart.

It's always been possible to build a gun with ease. My son built one when he was 10. It was 100% plastic too except for a tiny pin that the trigger pivots on. It works with compressed air and it's as deadly as any other gun. If you saw the movie "No Country For Old Men" you might get the idea how powerful compressed air can be. A nail gun is a more well known example of how compressed air can kill. But my son actually built his gun before that movie came out so that tells you how long ago it's been.

You can't stop evil with laws unfortunately. It's generally true that the only way to stop evil is with force. And they want to take away your ability to use force. The thing is it doesn't work. Do they think no one was ever killed before guns were invented? Have they ever heard of knives? I'm sure they want to ban those too. What about explosives, poison, impact weapons (like your basic club that grows on trees), bows and arrows, shanks (tour any prison store room and pay attention to the many ways humans devise to kill even in a prison), and automobiles. Why not just lock everyone in their bedrooms except farmers who will be locked in a box on their tractors. Forget ever building a new house. Hammers can kill quickly. Some scum bucket where I lived for the last 25 years used one to kill people not long ago. Then there's power tools. And chain saws. Have they ever seen the Texas Chainsaw Massacre?

All you do when you take away guns is give power to the bigger and stronger people. And of course you give power to governments which is what they really want. How can anyone seriously consider deliberately making yourself vulnerable to being a victim of a police state like the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany. Do they think those things don't happen? Do they know the story of the machetes in the struggle between the tribes of Rwanda? They didn't need guns to kill about a million people in 3 months or so.

Gun grabbers are flat out INSANE. They really think John Lennon was right when he sang, "All You Need Is Love". Well God didn't set this world up that way. We are here for a reason and we can't change that reason as much as we want to. Sure it would be nice to live where love reigns. I plan on doing that someday. That place will be called Heaven. It does not exist in this world.

We have a good example of what happens when you take away guns from a culture that knows them. The note above is a good example of that action in Britain. The violent crime rate went up a lot. Criminals don't follow laws so they knew they had the only guns around. What a situation to live through. No thank you. The pie in the sky types are going to get a lot of people killed before they are done. And yes I know gun crimes are lower in Britain than the US. And they are becoming more and more communist every day. Sorry but I don't need the government breathing down my neck over every little facet of life. They are playing with fire there. The government is heading a bad direction and they could end up with the kind of government we see in China before long. First off the Muslims living there are a constant threat and that's all that's needed to kick in government actions that send people to concentration camps where they die quickly. Yeah that almost never happens. Generally communists just kill the people they don't like. If you really think it's impossible look around at what the 20th century was really like. Governments killed over 100 million people just because they didn't like those people or for no reason at all in some cases. It does happen. China, Russia, Germany, Cambodia, Rwanda, etc. etc.. It DOES happen.

Thanks for pulling this together. I'll likely use it for reference quite frequently.

Great post! This makes it very convenient for me to SHOW people that politicians want to confiscate firearms.

The bigger take away from all this isn't that they want your guns. Been that way. Technology just brings it all up...ALL... with a few computer clicks. The bigger issue IMHO is that, this current batch of leftists are relatively transparent about it; and expect everyone to just go along with it all.
Look at the recent Nevada cow thing. Good citizens in Ct and Ny etc. chanting ''we will not comply''...then actually not complying. People are more ''fed up'' then ever , over the whole of the matter.

My wife had on "COPS" reruns the other night, just to show how the lack of programming I sat down and watched a few minutes before having to leave. I won't watch it because of the way they allow police to behave in some of these car stops. The basis was that the cop pulled over a kid, just for a "safety check", he couldn't,'t find a real reason to pull him over.
The kid was not loud or nasty, but when the officer asked if he could search his car, he first was going to let him, then said no. He asked the cop why he would pull him over for no apparent reason, "from watching, the episode, he really didn't have a reason".
Now he wants to search the kids car, just because. The kid said you have no reason to search my car so I don't want you to, and that was it, Get out of the car, handcuffed him and the kid said look I have a prescription for medical pot in my wallet, "there was less than 1/4 of a rock shaped piece in the car, " I don't know how it's measured, as I don't partake in pot smoking and never did, it may have been eatable, but that's not the point, he told the officer before he even looked and it was not enough for anything but a fine at best. He arrested the kid and took him to jail, saying that they don't recognize the medical use of pot in that state or county, all the time screaming at him and telling him all sorts of illegal nonsense that he could do to him, None of which was true.
If the kid had money, which he obviously didn't, he really could have had this guy suspended. I am pro law enforcement and almost always take the side of the officer, but this guy was just an ass. He wanted this kid to kiss his rear end.
It's a shame that guys like that are allowed to wear the badge, he was a disgrace to it. And had the nerve to tell the guy, that if he would have just been more co-operative and let him search his car and his person, he would not be going to jail.
So he was telling the kid that I can make you do what ever I please, and you can't do anything about it, even if you are legally right.
Ayoob has the proper way to approach this kind of abusive officer on a video someware on Utube, I have seen it before.
Now this is the type of officer or Deputy that you don't want to run into on a country road with no witnesses, and the type that would love to come in your house and take all of your guns knives, etc.. The vast majority of any group of people are decent, but you will always have the few idiots who when given a little authority, will attempt to make you jump through hoops for no reason, just because they can like a mall cop. I just doubt that there enough of them to actually enforce any confiscation policy that any State or Federal Govt. authority comes up with.
The country would go bankrupt if they had to pay for all of these weapons that people bought with their hard earned money, and to take them with no compensation, would be theft on the most massive scale ever instigated upon the American public.
So I don't see how they could even plan on trying something like that. It's like saying we are taking your cars or your money, it's just not legal, it's theft, you paid good money for your equipment how can someone just take it?
That is aside from trampling on the Constitution that many fought and died for, including friends and family members.
So who are these idiots who think that they can just strip us of out rights?

I had an Australian friend at work that always said "That'd never happen in Australia" whenever the latest and greatest gun-control law would be enacted here, to my eternal rage. After Australia crashed, I asked him what he thought about it. Not much to say.

Thanks for posting that. I had to watch Eric Holder's video. I've never seen it before and it just reaffirms what I've always thought. A bigger fool has not been born. I hope he's prosecuted before Obama leaves office.

I wrote that LA times reporter

trying to present him with some common sense...and then it hit me

Every time you see a news report like that, jump on it en masse....let the editor get 10,000 emails on what a fool they have on their staff and that anything to do with that newspaper, news channel, etc. will be banned in your life. Including anything from the paid sponsors. Then write those sponsors. Imagine 10k, 100k letters going to a coffee company, a car company, etc. telling them that as long as they support that media outlet(print/online/tv) you will no longer buy their products.

I am serious. do this and watch the fur fly and the articles stop.

They don't have to confiscate them. All they have to do is make them illegal, and we would have a bunch of 'uncaught felons'. Eventually, either people would turn theirs in, or hide them. Either way, the antis won. We barely won (on a federal level) over the last year and a half. If there hadn't been a narrow majority of republicans in the House, coupled with some pro gun Dems in the Senate (who realized that what they proposed in the Senate would have never made it through the House anyway), we would certainly be dealing with a much worse reality.

I certainly agree with your thoughts about the will of the people, and that, along with increased NRA membership, and people with a public voice (Colion Noir, Star Parker, forums such as this one, etc), along with our calls, emails, and letters to politicians, made sure the House republicans (not even all of them) acted in accordance with our rights, but if there wasn't a pro 2a majority in the House, we would have been done. I forget which committee has overview for gun legislation, but the chairman of that committee, since there was a republican house majority, was a pro 2a republican. Since the House had a republican majority, that translated to that particular committee (7 repubs and 6 dems, I believe) having a republican majority as well. That translated to no 'anti' bills even making it out of the committee, let alone getting a vote on the floor and to the presidents desk. And on the Senate side, with its democratic majority, they could have passed whatever they wanted, but it still had to go through the House. That's what saved us.

These upcoming fall midterm elections are extremely important for us. We HAVE to ensure that we have pro 2a senators and representatives in Congress. That's where the real power lies. Despite all the crowing from the antis about how dysfunctional our government is, this was actually a classic case of our government's checks and balances. And that worked to save our rights this past go-round.

This was not meant to say that all republicans are pro2a, and that all Dems are anti. I just wanted to lay out the political landscape of the (current) time.

I had an Australian friend at work that always said "That'd never happen in Australia" whenever the latest and greatest gun-control law would be enacted here, to my eternal rage. After Australia crashed, I asked him what he thought about it. Not much to say.

That's exactly right. It CAN happen here in the U.S. History has proven that time and time again. We have to keep fighting.

Maybe this is not 'High Road' if so please delete with my blessings.

The biggest restructuring of FEDERAL gun laws came after multiple assassinations of political figures, GCA 1968. Leading me to the conclusion that the single biggest threat to politicians is not losing an election.

Here we go plain as day

'Obama cites Australia’s gun confiscation program as example for US'

http://rt.com/usa/165384-obama-australia-gun-law/

“The Obama administration may be looking for an example in Australia as the White House considers potential new firearm laws for the United States in the wake of the latest in a series of devastating school shootings.”

.

I read the article you linked and found one statement to be exceptionally interesting. the author stated that:

"As for the argument that the 2nd Amendment was written with an eye toward protecting America from the tyranny of King George, the Revolutionary War ended in 1783 with the Treaty of Paris. The Bill of Rights was adopted six years later in an atmosphere in which there was no standing federal army; the government relied on state militias, which were composed of soldiers who brought their own weapons with them. We haven’t had an army like that in a long, long time. And the idea that a few well-armed patriots would be able to defeat the U.S. Army should the government turn despotic is, at best, a romantic infatuation."

As a member of the Armed Forces (Machinists Mate 2nd Class US Navy) I can readily and reliably state that a large portion and that most likely a majority of the armed forces are of a conservative proclivity and that many of us are gun owners outside of our duty as well. I would assume that these bans would apply to us as well as far as our non duty firearms and that now a large population of armed citizens who have been trained by the very government who is now telling them that they are not allowed to own perhaps even the very same weapons that they carry while on duty (with the exception of select fire models which are very difficult to acquire in the first place). This seems to me like it is a situation that if I were to find myself in that I and my brothers and sisters-in-arms would have a hard time upholding the government that we swore to uphold and then if there were to be an uprising that the men who were "loyal" to the oath that they swore (i believe personally that the oath i swore to support and defend the Constitution of the United States supersedes all the others such as to obey the orders of the President because of the "against all enemies both foreign and domestic.) would have a hard time fighting against quite possibly some of the very men and women that they fought along side while on deployments in some very galvanizing situations. So I feel as this statement may very well be moot since this group of "a few well-armed patriots" would not have to "be able to defeat the U.S. Army should the government turn despotic" because the Army (and all the DOD for that matter) would likely be part of this group of patriots, at least that is how i feel.
I'm not sure if i have made any kind of a point but i do feel like i have rambled on enough.

With so many millions of guns in the hands of millions of law-abiding American citizens, and the Title of this thread, the advantages of private sales should be very obvious. But retail purchases offer a warranty....go ahead.

It might become much easier to ban imported ammo and add huge taxes to domestic ammo purchases after another tragedy which involves children.
My wife will then understand why I've stored 6,700 rds. of 7.62x39, and am buying another 2,000 this summer.

Most of this is primarily a hedge against higher prices (along with inflation) during upcoming retirement. A growing quantity of people in the shooting sports=higher prices with inflation factored in.

And the idea that a few well-armed patriots would be able to defeat the "British"Army should the government turn despotic is, at best, a romantic infatuation."

Modded the quote a bit. Seems like something like that has been said before.

Get to the polls this fall.

Forget the small fry, when the President of the United States is publicly pontificating about why we can't do like they did in Australia, it's time to get worried.

Obama has said he agrees with Australia's gun ban. The left has out and out lied about things like 74 school shootings, they put in people who discharged a gun near a school ect. Its all BS. We have to quit this BS about taking the high road, No pun intended and we need to fight to win. People who follow some principal usually lose. I am not saying illegal acts, What I am saying is we one need to stick together and quit arguing amongst ourselves. You get these idiots who will say I love my guns but we don't need those black guns or AKs or Semi autos ect. I watched as Martin Bashier put on a show on PMSNBS after the navy shootings saying that we need to ban assault shotguns. It was a pump shot gun nothing more. If you think after you give in and let them have ARs and AKs your shotgun and your revolver are safe your as dumb as a bag of hammers.

The left on PMSNBS has been calling for a tax on ammo the past few days. They do not want sensible gun laws, that is a lie, its a euphemism designed to make a gun ban look like crap baked in a cake. Lets stop being divided and start by putting our money where our mouth is. Buy stock in your IRA in Ruger and Smith. Many of the moms against guns are telling people to dump any Mut fund that has these in it. Buy 100 shares of both if you can in Smith if your short on cash.

Vote and get anyone you know who is on the same page as you to vote. Lets at least keep the house so Obama can get nothing done. Stop pushing others who are more critical then you of the left to be more "civil" We don't need more civility we need to more of a marine mentality. No Quarter to be given. This bla bla bla garbage about not calling the leftist bad names or lets try to find common ground is all BS. Common ground to the leftist is to lead you to stand on a pit trap with punji sticks dipped in sewage.

“Most members of Congress — and to some degree this is bipartisan — are terrified of the NRA,” Obama said, alluding to opposition from some Democrats that helped thwart the Senate effort.

Any other question about which organization to belong to if you believe in gun rights?
