abrink - welcome to The High Road. If I may be so bold as to offer some advice: Please familiarize yourself with the forum's "search" feature.

Your question is not likely to get many, (if ANY) answers. It is one that makes the THR Top Ten Questions Asked by New Members. As such, it has been answered so many times that most of us do not bother anymore.

Just so you WILL get ONE answer, I carry a revolver.............

Simple answer, pick a modern high quality tool from a reputable manufacturer that works for you, learn it and maintain it and it will likely do you just fine.

I usually carry a revolver, for a myriad of reasons but I also carry bottom feeders on occasion.

Ill play too lol . I pretty much carry a revolver with a slide . I carry a kahr p9 most of the time. I dont mind double action but i dont care for the bulk of a revolver cylinder.

i carry auto loaders i was raised shooting revolvers and i plan to own a few in the future but for carry i choose autoloaders, for capacity, quick reloads, etc. also i like wepons with light rails and until recetly a revolver with a light rail was unheard of. i also like polymer framed, dao striker fired inparticular guns. same trigger pull everytime from first shot to last.

Autoloader. I never liked revolvers, except for large caliber ones because of the whole "cool" factor. To me, autoloaders feel much more ergonomic, and the ability to carry a large number of rounds is also a major plus. There is definitely nothing wrong with revolvers, aesthetically though they just don't seem to feel quite right in my hand the way autoloaders do. Another benefit I like is the light single action triggers available on many autoloaders.

One benefit of revolvers is some of 'em are so darn heavy you could probably knock your attacker out by throwing it at them, so it doubles as a blunt object when you are out of ammo. ;) (purely a joke)

Abrink, if you are trying to choose something for a CCW, I'd highly recommend going to your closest shooting range that has a nice variety of rental guns and just start renting/shooting stuff until you find what you like. Everyone has individual tastes, and it's tough to tell what you'd prefer unless you've already tried it. Usually most rental fees are relatively inexpensive, so if you plan on spending say ~$100 on rentals and ammo, you can rent a pretty decent number of guns and at least get a good idea of what type of gun you prefer. It might not take $100 but, that was just an idea.

I'll play this game. :)

At work I have to carry the issued autoloader. On my own time I can carry what I want and 90% of the time I carry a Revolver. Usually a 4" N-Frame and a J-Frame but will be switching to a 3" Ruger GP100 and a J-Frame after Christmas.

If I carry an autoloader Off Duty it's a Glock 19 with a NY1 Trigger to better replicate a revolvers trigger. I also carry the J-Frame or a Kahr PM9. I could carry a 1911 if I wanted to, and have. However I feel that I work best with a "point and shoot" type weapon.

My next autoloader will be a 1911 for use as a BBQ Gun and then a S&W M&P 45. The M&P will be what I carry when I'm not attending a BBQ, if I have to carry a "jamamatic". Before I get the S&W I'll pick up a Ruger SP101 to use as a BUG and make my J-Frame my third gun.

I generally pocket carry a S&W 642/442 and IWB a Glock 26. Both have no safety, both go bang when you pull the trigger.

90% M&P340 revolver, 10% Glock 27. Prefer the Glock for firepower, but the 13oz j-frame is sooooo easy to pocket - hammerless so easy and quick to draw.

Most of the time it's a J frame in front pocket. In Winter sometimes it's a 1911. Love 'em both. Essex

I carry a bazooka. The intimidation factor alone clears any street that I walk down and the Walmart just empties out when I go in there; no problem at all getting through check out. :what:

Actually, 99.99% of the time a Ruger SP101 2.25" with a speedlaoder the
.01% a Glock 21 with a spare magizine.

I've went back and forth on the subject many times, but I have to give the nod to the revolver for reliability.
Failure-to-fire instances are not very common with quality revolvers, but failure-to-feed and failure-to-eject instances are rather common with autos....even quality autos.
No matter how you slice it, autos are more ammo sensitive than revolvers.

I carry a revolver the vast majority of the time. Every now and then I slip on an auto. I just subjectively like and trust the revolver more. Nothing wrong with either choice so long as your example works well.

I prefer the autoloader (1911 CCO actually) when carrying IWB. It's much thinner so it's more comfortable and conceals better.

However, if I can use other methods to carry, such as OWB or pocket carry, I prefer a revolver. It's simpler to use, simpler in operation and it doesn't use magazines or slide reciprocation to operate so it's generally more reliable in a wider range of operation (from a pocket, up against a body, etc).

I usually carry a lightweight .38 revolver since it's just extremely convenient to drop my alloy framed S&W 642 in my pocket. I can also drop my heavier SP101 .357 in my pocket but it's too big for some of my pockets.

Auto -- 1911
Revolver -- S&W 629

Depends on clothing, activity, and what I'm feeling that day.

I practice with, compete with, and carry both but the edge goes to the 1911 as I have a lot more experience with it.

Why pick one?

-Sam
