Okay, so heres the deal. I'm a fan of the AK. I'm always trying to find way's to make them more effective (even if I can only afford some of them :p). I almost bought the AK Lightning Bolt when it came out, but when I did some more research, it seemed a lot less awesome than it did to begin with. Now I just saw this sight today.

This seems to have a lot more potential than the lightning bolt ever did. What do you guys think?

Looks interesting, but where will I put my Ultimaks and Aimpoints? :)

A+ for enginuity but C for functionality and purpose.

It seems to be a big fix for a minor problem. The vid shows all the "neat" things and how well it works. But what about the possible failures. It got covered in dirt once when closed, but how about if opened? It also looks like it might get hung up when slung.

Does it look like it can help? Sure a bit, but is it worth another failure point in a rifle built for reliability? That is up to you, but I say no.

Wil not be buying one. KISS when it comes to AK's. This adds complication. Complication is what I have my FS2000 and SR556 for.

That was actualy someting that I liked better about this than the lightning bolt. It's further forward than the lightning bolt, so it seems like it wouldn't have as many problems as the lightning bolt as far as slinging the weapon goes. And even if you can't have an ultimak rail (which I have and love on my Vector) you can still run a red dot on a side rail. I dunno.

It's not going to get much lefthander acceptance, I'd guess, unless there were a version that closed to the right side of the rifle. But with the charge handle on the right side anyway this would be redundant.

Looks cool but I will pass. I don't care to have two reciprocating bolt handles on a rifle.
If you want to speed reload an AK they have a ton of videos on it on youtube that show how to do it with unmodified rifles.

Looks good to me, but hey I have never really liked loading and dealing with an AK that has run out anyway.

It is a cool feature except that I don't want a reciprocating charging handle anywhere near the front handguards.

I know you don't generally hold the rifle in a way that would interfere, but if you've got long thumbs, or prefer some slightly odd hold -- or heaven forbid you're left handed and have long fingers, this is going to HURT you occasionally.

A non-reciprocal version would be very nice, but a lot harder to engineer.

I must be dumb too because I thought the charging handle did what this thing does. And I watched the movie.

They did a really good job at putting it together and making it a simple drop-in kit. Kudos to them for it. And it would be really fun for my Saiga .223.

BUT.

I don't think I would buy it because I'm fine with the current charging handle...for now...until I get the crazy idea I want it.

It would be nice if I wasn't charging the rifle from the GAS TUBE! It's already a loosely fitted piece, why muck it up anymore with a forward charging handle?

They had my hopes up for a minute until I realized its reciprocating, and that my thumb is way too close to that handle.
If it worked like an H&K it would be perfect.:D

With practice like anything else, the normal AK charging handle can be manuvered timely and effectively. People keep coming up with ways to fix a near flawless system. This and other "upgrades" are convienient but not necessary.
