You have $1100 and can buy 1 gun.....

NIB I paid around $550.00ish for my BHP. 9mm, inexpensive pistol, and lots of money left over to buy thousands and thousands of rounds of ammo.

Go man...go...! Run and buy that thing!!! Let's do the math...you have $1,100.00 to spend, and you pay, as I did $550.00ish leaving you $550.00 for ammo. Now, $550.00 / $32.00 per box of 250 rounds of 9mm, equals 17 boxes. So, 17 boxes times 250 rounds per box equals 4,296 rounds of 9mm!

Hard to find them for that these days but I agree a lot with your thinking. The only thing I will add is that if you take a stock BHP there are a few things you will want to change.

If you carry a larger strong side safety from C&S is a must. For many people a commander no-bit hammer is also necessary. You must remove the magazine disconnect to get the most out of a BHP trigger.

So depending how good you are at home smithing you have to add some $$$ to the cost of a BHP to get the most out of it. IMHO

* 9mm or .40S&W (I don't reload - because of this .45ACP is just a little too expensive for me to shoot as often as I would like).
* High Capacity (minimum of 12 rounds).
* 3.7" to 5" barrel.
* To be used as a range gun.
* To be used as a concealed carry gun.(I've carried a Beretta 92FS comfortably, which isn't exactly a small gun, so - bulk is not a MAJOR concern).
* Must have excellent corrosion resistance.
* Prefer 2-tone but this is not a hard-ball requirement.
* Must have night sights.
* Compensated is acceptable - not required and not frowned upon.
* Accessories (holsters/mags/etc) must be readily accessible and not cost an arm and a leg.
* Prefer metal frame over polymer, but this is not a requirement.
* Strong preference for something with a standard rail - not some proprietary one!

Honestly I think there are only two guns that perfectly fit your criteria: SIG P226 and P229.

Get a CPO or lightly used SIG Two Tone - send it to Gray Guns - and you'll have a handgun that perfectly matches all your criteria. That's what I would do in your situation. I would suggest a 9mm P226 Two Tone.

I've been seeing Gray Guns mentioned a lot on the sig forum - give me the short reader's digest version of what they do please!

He is a instructor and gun smith who specializes in Sigs. His work is great. No one else can beat him IMHO. There are others who will do good work but he is hard to beat.

Personally, I'd skip the elite. I see no reason for a beavertail on a non-1911, but the I do like the idea of a P229 in .40. Later, you can pick up a .357Sig barrel and a Bar-Sto 9mm conversion barrel and have all 3 calibers in 1 gun. Plus, it's just a fantastic gun.

That's a thought actually - a two-tone P229... and a conversion barrel or two... How much do those barrels usually run? Are they special order, or something you can usually pick up at a show?

Thanks everyone for the responses so far... I've got it narrowed I believe to a Sig, but am still thinking about a CZ as well - especially that CZ-75B Stainless - that's a beautiful weapon!

I don't want to be closed-minded though - so - continued replies are appreciated!

Oh yes - as soon as the Fedex man shows up today I will have EXACTLY $1100 to spend at the show.

I see nobody even touched my comment about the Para P18 - anything wrong with those?

Thanks again everyone - any more feedback?

That is strictly a race gun not for defensive shooting. You cannot carry that thing.

are you in media.you only took a partial quote and obviously don't know that there are 4 different models in the elite line of witness (gold team, limited, match and stock) while the gold team is a ported competetion gun the stock is an accurized stock pistol with the same dimentions as a full size witness.and still retains SA/DA trigger function (except the SA pull is SWEEEEET).and IMHO chambered in 10mm it would be a fantastic full size carry gun.

I stated earlier:

Don't like 1911 in anything other than 45 with standard capacity as they were designed but that is just me. I am not a Para fan at all and although I do not own one I have heard spotty results on this high capacity 1911.

With a hi-point you don't need ammo... Can you diffuse the situation by just pulling it...

Then call out the fire department to wash away all the urine caused by everyone pissing themselves laughing at how ugly it is!

I wish .45acp hadn't climbed so much in price ...
where are you buying ammo that .45 is that much more than .40
Does anyone make high capacity 40 caliber 1911s?
doesn't para make one.this would be extra good if you reloaded because you can seat bullet out longer and push the 40 a little. I know you said you don't reload.which may be a problem the 1911 is designed to feed a ~.45 acp length bullet some have feeding issues with 9mm and .40 length.

Not sure if you will find them at the gun show or not, but you can buy them here...

I have dealt with him before and he is a top notch e-tailer. Keep in mind, the .40 to .357 or vice versa is just a drop in, but the 9mm requires a Bar-Sto conversion barrel that may or may not require fitting.

I have both the Sig 229 .40 and CZ75 9mm. Both are excellent firearms. However, there is a stronger "goodies" market for the Sig 229. I have had a little problem finding readily available stuff for the CZ.

I had thought about the "goody factor" quite a lot...

At this point I am going to shop around for good prices on both guns, then see what kind of aftermarket grips I can find for the Sig...

Then probably get a two-tone P229 (not the elite) and a pair of wood grips to dress it up a bit..

BUT - that's all still to come - I have a few days left to mentally exhaust myself even further thinking about this!
