You knew it was comming...Man, that gun show sucked!

As PremiumSauces's thread said concerning reoccurring themes... Man that gun show sucked! :cuss: :fire:

I went to the gun show in Augusta, GA this morning, and I was appauled by what I witnessed. There was a wide selections of $250 to $300 Chinese SKSs, $300 to $350 Yugo SKSs, a $400+ rough looking Romanian SKS, $180+ M91/30s (and they looked hideous), and $600+ Saigas I found online (link) for $330 (matching models).

I didn't see any EBRs! I wasn't looking for one, but there's always EBRs at gun shows!

What memo did I miss?! :what:

The economy is not doing well. People aren't buying as many guns, so the dealers raise prices to compensate.

:D

Easy answer- don't buy. The fewer people that buy at the grossly inflated prices, the faster that they will come into line.

I used to love the Gunshows-Still do. But Like the rest of us Moneys tight and I have no desire to sell at shows in Stinking NYstate-[mandatory nicks checks ]-Ill buy from private sellers .
So what do you blame for the gunshows going bad???
I blame the wholesalers -R-Guns =CDNN-The rest of the dealers in Shotgun news--selling direct to the public and advertising prices to the public that are the same as to the FFL holders. That and the fact that all the good guns are No longer avalable -O3 Springfields -Uzis-HKs-Augs-tec 9s-Kimmel 9s -Streetsweepers -ETC.
You used to buy a russian SKS for $145.00 and a case of ammo for $75.00. No more days like that -And I dont think they will come back again.
Classic cars are the same way -Price out a nice 69 elcamino and its 4-10TIMES what it cost new! god forbid a 67 vette can go over a hundred grand!

I still go to most. But I've found a certain group of vendors I deal with every time, which all treat me like an old friend, and the rest either don't intrest me, or are still trying to sell the same guns they had the last three times at too high a price.

I thought about dropping by that gunshow myself. I went and bought a bunch of reloading gear out of an estate instead.

Now I'm in for it.

There is a gunshow in Columbia I think in November. I'm curious to see how it is. I know I've seen the same stuff over and over for 3-5 years.

Yeah, but there is an election coming up and some of us are buying ammo and guns at a greater rate even though our 401Ks and IRAs are shot to hell.

Well, that's smart. :banghead: Econ 101: if you want to sell more, you lower prices. If you want to sell less, you raise them.

How do you mean "blame"? If the dealers are buying $350 surplus Glocks from CDNN and marking them up to $499, why on Earth is it a bad thing if folks just buy it from CDNN? Show dealers generally don't even have the abstract "we provide a community service" argument that brick-and-mortar stores have.

So CDNN is evil and greedy for selling directly to the public in order to make more money, and the guy who just wanted to mark everything up $100 and sit in a lawn chair to make money is somehow the wronged party?

Heck, I see show dealers selling Marlin 60s for $175, when I could run to the parking lot, drive to Academy Sports, and have the same gun in my hands for $125 in less than 20 minutes. I'm not about to cry a lot of tears over missing that.

That said, I found several good deals at today's gunshow, and sold a gun to someone else at a reasonable price. I just had to sift through a lot of overpriced stuff to find good deals.

Classic cars are the same way -Price out a nice 69 elcamino and its 4-10TIMES what it cost new! god forbid a 67 vette can go over a hundred grand!

Might have something to do with the whole "they don't make '69 El Caminos anymore", not to mention a tid bit of inflation. It's basic free-market supply and demand, right?

You used to buy a russian SKS for $145.00 and a case of ammo for $75.00. No more days like that -And I dont think they will come back again.

That's because they sold all the Russian SKSs at that price, so the supply has dropped compared to the demand.

That and the fact that all the good guns are No longer avalable -O3 Springfields -Uzis-HKs-Augs-tec 9s-Kimmel 9s -Streetsweepers -ETC.

You can still buy all the stuff, I saw most of those items at the gun show today, and I'd dispute putting the Tec-9 into the "good" category.

Plus there are all kinds of guns available today that weren't available 20 years ago.

I thought gun folks were big into the whole Capitalism thing, what happened?

The internet killed the gun show.

There is no reason to go to a gun show except to look.

Pretty sure that the gun dealers are doing better because of the economic situation. All the dealers I know are doing better in this economy right now. Demand is high.

Why do you think someone should load up a bunch of crap, pay $60-$100 a table, and work there weekend to give you a deal.

Gunshows suck, go look, play then buy from whoever has the best price.

I personally like to throw the local guy a bone every now and then to keep them aflot, but if they have a g19 for $700 when I can go to big-box-mart and get it for $450, guess where Im getting it.

Well, if gun shows aren't enough, and you find yourself needing a mid-week fix, then drop into Bass Pro Shops and look at their used racks. A used NEF Handi in .223 with plastic furniture is a mere $299.99 plus 8.75% sales tax and a NICS check, which is only $75 or so more than a new one, when you stop to think about it.....

I've been out of the gun show scene from 2002 to last year. I don't remember them being anything like they are now. Now I'll grant different time and different region of the US for some of the differences, but come on!

Salt Lake City's "Cross Roads of the West" (CRotW) held in the Salt Palace were ALWAYS incredible. It was roughly 125,000+ square feet of Capitalism and the 2nd Amendment. :D

Now maybe I've been spoiled with CRotW, but the gun shows I've been to here in Georgia have not matched my SLC memories (This is NOT a detraction on the state of Georgia!). I've learned which shows to go to and which tables to "linger" at. :)

It just seems that within the past six months, the overall quality of the gun shows in general have dropped off considerably. I've gone to three previous Augusta gun shows, and they were definately better than today. :cuss:

How has the Internet killed gun shows? My opinion is it's a reference to see just how overpriced some gun dealers truly are.

Have I ever ordered a firearm from the internet? Once-Gunbroker for a Mauser. Do I buy locally? Absolutely! And I will continue to do so. ;)

Buy american . . .

before all you can get is Chinese Garbarge painted with lead-based paint. RUGER; REMINGTON; KIMBER; and few others are still superior and available. cliffy

Our local gun shows are joke's, even criminals won't go there to buy guns,,hahaha.

There was a guy selling several Remington shotguns for 500 a piece, sadly the Joe's Sporting Goods boxes had sale stickers for 299.00 on the side. We had a chuckle and he got mad and whipped out the trusty black marker.

I found a guy with a decent rebuilt WWII Enfield revolver, marked 265. When I picked it up, he reached over and scratched out 265 and remarked 350 on the tag while I was holding it,,lol. He did say he'd take 325 cash,,,hahahaha.

What a place to buy guns.

Right, we're just awash in Red Chinese guns these days....

Plus all that Belgian, Swiss, and German crap that falls apart before hunting season even arrives.

Can we complain next about those liberal jerks who drive Toyotas (made in Tennessee) instead of Fords (made in Mexico) as John Wayne intended?

Gun Shows

Just go to one once in a great while just to watch the moving picture show. You have to laugh at it from the guy trying to sell 2 year old jerky to the dealer that has to get his wife or girl friend half undressed just to get someone to stop by his table of overpriced junk. Good time for a few bucks and a couple of beers.:neener:

GEE Matt
I was telling you why the gunshows have gone in the toilet-
CDNN was the worst of all places to gouge and scam you after the Billy Ban-then The ATF killed off half the dealers -And shows dropped off.
You sound like you work for CDNN ? If not What work do you do -Would you like to do busness with the gas station that gouged you for $7 dollar gas during a shortage [HEY dude it just Capitalism] Im sure you go right bach to the same station. How would you like it if your suppliers at your place of employment Undercut your legs off and sold direct to your customers-Hey its capitalism right --Guns shows will go the way of the do do bird -I dont sell at them anymore gave up the FFL also.
I have all the guns I want and a lifetime supply of ammo--The whole economy can go to heck for all I care -
When the next ban is implemented -CDNN will shaft everyone and smile all the way to the bank-!
Enjoy your sunday!
