I have my CCW permit. I am going to carry a Ruger Blackhawk .45 with a 4 5.8" barrel during winter weather, with a .44 Bulldog DA back-up pistol.

[1] What is you opinion of the Mernickle PS6-SA Concealment holster? (This is a pancake designed to be carried on the dominant side with FBI Cant).

[2] Since the high-carry Mernickle has a low-cut front for a faster draw, does the holster adequately retain the gun under normal carrrying conditions (will it fall out)?

[3] Does this Mernickle holster exposed the back of a blued gun to body sweat due to its low-cut design?

My other option is is Tucker Pancake. Mernickle will delivery faster, however.

I would welcome your thoughts.

[1] Excellent holster! [2] These are tight holsters; nothing is going to fall out, even if you stand on your head. I recommend against bungee jumping. [3] I don't know how to answer this, except to say the gun does not touch me anywhere. If one sweats like a waterfall, or has a belly that flops over the gun, well, things could be different. I bet that Bob Mernickle could custom-make a holster with a sweat guard.

I carry my Ruger New Vaquero 45 Colt in one quite often. The only problem I have, and it is not a fault of the Mernickle holster, is the New Vaquero hammer is more upswept and its harder to conceal. A Super Blackhawk hammer will soon be installed to solve this problem.

I am also thinking about one of his IWB holsters for my single action.

I tried to carry concealed with my OM Blackhawk 4-5/8" in Mernickle's PS6-SA holster. I found that (for me) the belt loops were not far enough apart to keep the Blackhawk's grip turned into the body for concealment.

The PS6 is a fine holster and very well made - just didn't work for me.

I installed a Super Blackhawk hammer on my Blackhawk -- what a difference (along with an action tune)!!!

My New Vaquero is the "Montado" variant, with a hammer like the SBH, except for the checkering. I agree with jsmosby about it being a positive difference. :)

Lucky devil!!!

I saw your piece in a store, and would have bought it but for the Colt .45 chambering (ammo too expensive and .45 ACP has less recoil for follow-up shots).

But I think that the Montado is better suited for CCW than the Blackhawk (shorter barrel length and stainless steel).

My take on the Mernickle SA holster is that it an excellent modification of El Paso's Threepersons holster.

A few days ago, Ruger's website still showed the 3.75" RNV as being available as a Davidson's exclusive and a limited edition, but does not use the term Montado. (Click on "distributor exclusives.") Ruger's site did not work for me today, though, so I was not able to see if it was offered in .357. Davidson's website does use the term Montado, and shows them as available in .45 Colt.
