for all you contender users what caliber bbls do you own and what do you use them for?

Right now I have
1) 14" .223 used to annoy people with fancy target style rifles.

2) 10" 41mag used to annoy me trying to find a good cast load for.

3) 10" 45/410 used to annoy clays, but not very many of them :(

4) 10" 22 mag that I haven't shot yet.

5) 14" 444 Marlin with muzzle brake used to annoy everyone else at the range.

I've also had from time to time,

6) 10" .223 that I traded for the 14" .223

7) 14" 44mag that morphed into the 14" 444

8) 10" 357mag that I used to make the above morphing take place.

9) 14" 30-30AI that I traded for #10

10) 14" 7tcu that I traded for #2

I just bought a Contender G2 rifle in 375JDJ to go along with my SSK Industries T/C in 375JDJ to use as my main deer hunting combination.......

Okiecruffler, I LOVE your #1 answer! I, too, have a stainless super 14" in .223 and have done the same many times. Some get all big-eyed and will simply put their gear up and go home when they see how small the group is at 100 yds with that handgun! I love it! Sometimes it is a guy with mucho big bucks invested in a gun in some large exotic caliber and high dollar scope who believes that money and high grade equipment will make up for all his shooting errors in the field.Much more often it is the guy with the lever gun that he can't hold on a 5-gallon bucket at 75 yds though.

I also use it for varmits, etc. Works WELL.

I only have one other. It is a stainless 14" in 30-30 win that shoots almost as well. I deer hunt with it. Have taken several and it is VERY effective.

Threads like this make putting off buying a T/C and half dozen barrels harded and harder. Thanks a lot guys.

Those 14" 223 barrels are just wicked accurate. I have 2 loads, one full power and one reduced Blue Dot load, that will consistantly shoot 5 shot 1/2MOA groups. I've never had a rifle that will even come close to that kind of accuracy.

not a contender owner but an encore owner.

i have a 15in 223 bbl that is just a riot to go shoot.

we also have a 24in 209x50 mag for deer with a matching stock

my next purchase will probably be for a 7-08 for deer huntin

1). 14" .223 punching paper, enjoy the muzzle flash.

2). 12" .45/.410 varmints. Fun to plink with Barnaul steel case slug ammo.

3). 10" (octogon) .221 Fireball ...haven't shot it yet. Hoping for lots of muzzle flash and noise. Want to use on varmints(rats, opposums & mice).

I have these:

.44 Magnum with choke for shooting Hot Shot shells. Have a .22 insert barrel which fits in the .44 barrel too.

Scoped .357 Maximum barrel for deer hunting.

Ahhhh - the Contender :) :)

I am not in any way gonna give Cruffler a run for his money - that'd be impossible! :p

I currently have that 14" .223 barrel - and that gets used most - it is ''disgustingly'' accurate - so much so I think I can group better with that than my Ruger 77 MkII! It is shere bliss to shoot and even factory ammo (WWB) does remarkably well.

I also have the .44 mag barrel, 12" - and that does now and again get an airing - probably not enough! Pics below - same frame of course but just a barrel change.

.30-30 Super 14 for punching paper at 100 yds. (This one had people standing in line to take a shot)

.45-70 Super 16 Had MagnaPort do a rifle job on it and it still sucks. :cuss:
Really disgusts people in indoor ranges.

I have 12 10" barrels about half octagon and half bull in the following cals: 22LR, 22 K Hornet, 223, 25-35, 30 Herret, 32 H&R Mag, 357 Maximum, 357 Herret, 10MM, 45 Colt, 45 Win Mag. I have 5 Super 14 barrels in the following cals: 22LR, 6.5 TCU, 357 Herret, 41 Mag, and 45 Win Mag. And I only have 2 frames! :) The 6.5 TCU is currently in a very tight race with my XP 100 in 7MM BR for the most accurate handgun I own.

Right now I'm saving up for a custom barrel. Originally it was going to be a 300 Whisper, but then I got the idea to use 357max brass instead of 221 for a rimmed case. If things go as planned I should have it in my grubby little hands by Novemeber. Only problem with the Contender is that it's sucking up all of my C&R money. OkieContender just doesn't have the same ring to it. :(

New owner bought out the local gun store. Previous owner was way overloaded on Contenders. New owner wanted to dump 'em. Thru trading, haggling, and excessive use of personal charm, I managed to buy three complete guns. One was .35 Remington, and two were .357 Herrett. Had $475 in all three :D

Ended up selling two (the .35 Remington and one .357) for $575, so the other one only cost me...... Oh wait...I made $100 :D

One of the local "experts" told me the .357 Herrett was one of the hardest kicking pistols he'd ever shot. Dunno what loads he had, but mine's fine. I've got a 2x Leo scope I took off my .44 M29. I've hit blackbirds at 80-100 yards. Plenty big for deer and probably most things bigger.

Nice thing is, another local shop was cleaning out bullets (Hornady, Sierra) for $3 per 100. I bought all 18 boxes

14 inch .223 barrel. I've been trying to come up with one load that is super accurate in it and my Ruger 77V. I've come close but haven't found it yet. That's the fun of reloading. :D

Larry - amazes me that the 55 grain fmj WWB shoots extraordinarily well outa my 14" and the 45 grain WWB varmint load does pretty well outa the Ruger 77 - not perfect but, for factory ammo - not half bad. I have yet myself tho to perfect the most ideal handload.

Ranger - sorry no more barrels until you have frame #3! :p

I have a 12" 4x Scoped SSK barrel in .44 Mag and a 10" 45/.410 for my Contender.

I really want a 14" 375JDJ. I have also shot a braked 7-30 Waters that was very nice to shoot, and the cartridge intriques me.

I wouldn't mind having a 223, 357 Mag or Max, and even a nice .22LR or Mag barrel too.

14" 30-30 w/2X scope for deer hunting
10" 22 LR w/2X scope for plinking and practice
10" 357 Magnum fixed sights - just to have

Kamicosmos...

might want to check out the .357 Herrett if you're looking for a .35 caliber. The ballistics vs grains of powder is very impressive. Very efficient and nice to shoot.

When I traded for mine, I was going to sell it, but after doing some checking I decided to keep it. Glad I did. HTH

only one, a 10 in. 30/30 with a red dot. is a hoot to shoot. other ppl want to talk about contenders and shoot mine. i always comply and they are always impressed. i want and would have other bbls. but i always find another gun i want more than another bbl. the 30/30 is a sweetheart and i would hate to put it aside for a rifle caliber in a 14 in. bbl. afraid i would get used to sub moa groups and not use the trusty 30/30 bbl. again. i get close to moa with the red dot and think i could get an occasional one with crosshairs. red dots for older eyes yunno
