Okay so I am in the market for a new EDC folder.

I'm not very well-versed in the knife world, I just want a quality knife that can handle tasks day in and day out.

I don't expect it to be needed in a hand to hand fight, but I would like a blade of at least 3". And budget is around $125, but can be negotiated a little higher if I see some real potential in a knife ;)

I just have brands listed, but if you could give what knife you like, and if it isn't one of those listed in the poll please still give me your input!

Thanks,
tx

Depending on where you live, I've always found some really interesting knives can be found at trading posts and pawn shops - especially in the southwest and up the Rockies. Lots of handmade knives get traded in for some extra cash, and they're simply gorgeous. One knife I carry has inlaid bone, turquoise, and mother of pearl, and has a blade that simply will not dull.
Something to think about at least?

Other

Today, as I sit here, I'm carrying four brands, none of which are listed in the poll. Yesterday, I was carrying five different brands, and the fifth brand is also not listed.

:neener:

Belt, left: EKA Swede 92.
Belt, right: Leatherman Wave.
Right front pocket (today): Case Pocket Hunter.
Right front pocket (yesterday): Buck Stockman (large).
Right side pocket (glove pouch): EKA/Wenger Swiss Army Knife (SAK).
Right side pocket (glove pouch): Case Peanut.

The Wave and the SAK are always with me.
The Swede 92 (left belt pouch) can also be a Nordic T8, a Buck Vantage, a Buck 110, a Case Sod Buster (large), or a Benchmade Steigerwalt NRA Outdoor knife.
The right front pocket can have either of the the two above or: Case Medium Stockman, Case Sod Buster Jr, Lone Wolf Paul Presto, Buck 55, Gerber Silver Knight, U.S. Classics Wharncliffe half-whittler, Buck 444, or a Schrade Uncle Henry medium stockman.

You'll have to forgive me for being amused that on a single day I managed to carry five different brands, none of which appear on the list in the poll.

That's my chuckle for the day.

:D

For the past several years, a Case CV peanut has been my edc. Either a yellow handle CV. Of late I've been carrying a peanut with Devin Thomas damascus blades and amber bone jigged scales. Two inches of blade seems to be enough for my day to day use. If I need more, then my number 8 Opinel or Case yellow CV sodbuster is close by.

Arfin....I feel as if you post just to mock me ;)

I recently got a Buck Vantage and love it. I got the select version because its cheap but the Pro model is in S30V for around $60. I also love my SOG flash 1 for something a little smaller and I have been eyeing the SOG Aegis or Aegis mini for some time now. I also love my assorted Kershaws, especially the RAM.

Leek is numero uno

.

I voted Kershaw, but could have voted for something else
as I rotate my EDC around. But if forced into one EDC choice
I would have to go with a Kershaw Leek with G10 scales and
SV30 blade.

I also carry a BM Nitrous Stryker when I want to carry something a
little heavier and I carry a Ken Onion Eros when I want something
a little lighter.

When someone comes out and asks for an EDC recommendation I
will always recommend the Leek. It is a masterpiece/classic EDC
knife design.

One not listed is Mcusta. I carry a Browning Ice Storm which was made by Mcusta and it is an amazing knife. Mcusta makes quite a few different models, many of which hit your price range. Another I am very fond of is the AG Russell Folding Spearpoint.

Mcusta left, AG Russell right...

Since we have members from all walks of life that work at all sorts of jobs and participate in all sorts of recreational activities, tell us what you use a knife for so we have a better idea what to suggest.

My uses for a knife: Work around the farm (anything and everything requiring a blade), little things that come up during the day, and then of course to have in case a seat belt needs to be cut in the case of a wreck or something.

Also, since alot of times I only have one hand available, a knife that I can open with one hand is a necessity. (I know that applies to most knives, just clarifying my needs)

Currently I am carrying a CRKT M21-14DSFG which is a great knife, it is just getting a little too big for my pockets (4" blade) as the weather gets warmer and layers of clothing are shed.

I currently carry a large CRK Sebenza and if I'm not carrying that, I'm carrying a Rick Hinderer XM-18. Along with that, I have a Leatherman Juice S2 in my bag with a small SAK on my key ring.

I rotate knives depending on what I plan on doing, or what my particular tastes are on that day. Usually an Endura or Delica is what winds up in my pocket though various models of Case, and Buck are represented and carried on occasion too.

I rotate between a Spyderco Police and a pair of Benchmade autos mostly its the Spyderco lately. We got a new local LEO here now that likes to make people empty their pockets when ever he feels like and tends to take knives away saying " It is illegal to have this" so Im fixing to get me some el cheapo knives to carry but that is what I have now.

TNT

Tx, if you can find one, you should try the Buck (Mayo) TNT.

It's not a Sebenza, but it's seriously a really good knife.

I don't think Buck makes the TNT any more, and that may affect the price, but even a used one is going to be good.

I got to handle the one Chuck Buck was carrying one afternoon. He was there with C.J. Buck signing knives at a factory sale shindig. The TNT is one of the "happiest" knives I've ever fondled.

You would like it. Good steel, one-hand opening, frame lock, light, tight, smooth, sharp, responsive, tough.

It's not so expensive that you'll have panic attacks about losing it, but it costs enough that you won't get careless about where you put it down.

The newer Buck "Vantage" line gives clues to the design of the TNT (heck, you might like that one, too). If you want to just get a feel for a Mayo design, pick up a Buck/Mayo "Hilo" or the slightly smaller "Cutback." They're both imports, but you will appreciate the quality of the design immediately. They are both similar to the TNT in shape and size and mechanism, but the TNT is -- at first touch -- a knife that will make you smile, maybe chuckle a little. I know it did that for me.
