Your favorite .22 Handgun to carry in the field all day?

For a long time I carried a K-22 (pre Model 17), then went to a 22/32 Kit Gun in a high ride holster, a companion to my Model 36. Both 6 shot, though I would agree that today I would opt for the larger capacity versions.

In those days, carrying a revolver in the woods was preferable to an auto-loader; many game wardens considered auto-loaders as "gangster guns", where revolvers were OK for police and sportsmen.

I have a lot of rimfires and quite a few of those are pistols. For general purpose use and belt carry, I can find none better than this Old Model Ruger Single Six.

Then there's the S&W model 18.

There's also a model 17 that has taken truckloads of small game and is a dead ringer for this K-38.

The Ciener 1911 conversion gets a lot of holster mileage as well.

And a Ruger 22/45RP.

For slipping into my pocket while fishing, there's a New Bearcat. Patton wouldn't approve but I like it and the plastic is unaffected by moisture.

For dedicated hunting, there are my Brownings.

Grand daughter, N E F revolver

In the interest of full disclosure, there is a 1911 and a 1894 lever action close by, in the camper or truck.

Is this a loaded question or what?
There are countless choices for field carry in a .22 LR.
I like the Walther P22 with attached suppressor...but then I also like the S&W M&P .22 with attached suppressor.
I used to carry a High Standard 9 shot revolver in the woods for EVERYTHING I might encounter.

That would be Didi or maybe Lilith,,,

Didi is my S&W Model 18 Combat Masterpiece,,,
In my not-so-humble opinion It's the finest .22 revolver ever made.

Lilith is my S&W Model 63,,,
With these large target grips she feels almost like Didi.

Either gun would give me all the capability for a decent trail walk.

There are other .22 handguns out there that will do the job,,,
But these two guns just make me smile.

Yes, there are. He just wants to know what each of us likes as a favorite. Yours is apparently the Walther P22.

If I am going to carry a 22 pistol all day just out walking around plinking or hunting , my choice is a nickel plated Colt Scout with a 9 1/2 barrel. It is part of a brace of them, I bought in 1971. I carry it in a Old Hunter Belt and Holster rig, I have had to buy a larger belt a few years ago, but the rig is still the same tho. The guns were fitted with stag grips right after I bought them. I use to squirel hunt with it when I had the eyes, but now I am, for the most part just reliveing some old memiories and enjoying the day in the woods. The old gun looks and shoots as good as it ever did, but I am afraid I don`t.

For a semi-auto it would be the S&W Model 2206 TGT that I picked up new back in the early '90's. Revolver-wise would be a more recently acquired H&R 4" barreled Model 676 which has 2 cylinders so it can fire either 22LR or 22 WMR. So that gives me 3 choices from two .22 handguns. Right now I'd be leaning in favor of the revolver just because it's newer to me and I haven't been able to get totally familiar with it yet.

A Ruger Mark II, stainless 5 1/2 inch bull barrel. Fiber optic front sight, V-notch rear sight. Carried daily in an Uncle Mike's shoulder holster or belt holster since retirement eight years ago. Sure wish it were a little lighter, but I can't beat it for accuracy. The fiber optic/V-notch sight combination works great with my 71 year old eyes. Carried daily because I am a "good old country boy".

Mine would be my Ruger Single Six convertible, 9.5 inch barrel...nylon belt holster.
All day comfort, even with the long barrel.

Used to always be a 4" Colt Diamondback. With values like they are today, I will carry a S&W M18 (4"), S&W M17 (4"), my 5" S&W M63, or simply a Ruger LCR in 22. It just depends on my mood and lately it has been the LCR since the 22 is sort of extra bagage with my photo or fishing gear.

22mag

My All Day Carry here at the Ranch Is A S&W 651 4" Or an AMT AutoMag ll. They take care of Yoties And Wild Dogs very well. Once in a while A Bob Cat will show up, 35 to 40 yards he is a goner.

The 22 magnum is my choice ranch gun.

My new favorite field carry is a SR22, it is get shot a lot. Sometimes I carry a Walther M-22 with a can. My wife carries a my old favorite a 617 airweight in bushed chrome. I always a .38 Colt Agent.

I carried, and still love, an early 90's vintage Browning Buckmark, until I decided I really needed something to stop social situations more than anything while in the boondocks. Every since, I've carried a fighting gun, often a .357 loaded heavy just in case I meet a four legged critter with too much interest in me, realizing it's the two legged ones I really need to worry about.
