What was your first HD gun?

I was thinking back to when I was young and had to stay weekends
alone in a house located way out in the country in the hills of Tennessee.

My HD weapons were a single shot 12 gauge and a Ruger 10-22. They were
a source of comfort. Back then I didn't know much about guns but, I actually
felt more protected with the 10-22. I was very accurate with it.

I'm better armed now ;) fun to think back though.

My first two were almost the same as yours (shotgun was in 20 gauge.) My first handgun came a year later, and was a Taurus M66 revolver. More than two decades later, I still own and shoot all three.

S&W Sigma 9mm. Very reliable, never failed to work. Sold it for an S&W Model 19 snubbie revolver in .357 - which is now on HD duty.

My new Glock 19 gen4 might replace my revolver for HD, once i get enough confidence in it.

I bought my first gun for HD, range shooting, and carry. My choice was a Glock 17, and it still is by my bed every night (have a G19 for carry now).

The first gun that was purchased specifically for HD, was a 4" .357 magnum.

That revolver has since been moved to another role.

My first was a single shot 16 gauge. I don't even know the manufacturer. I sold it like a fool. I was a teen, so there you go.

First HD gun, and the second gun I ever bought, was a 28" barreled Mossberg 500. I chopped it down to 19", added a top-folding stock, polymer fore-end and a fiber optic bead sight. I felt confident in it :) The next purchase was a Norinco AK with a 75-round drum, but the Mossy came first for HD.

The first gun I ever had was truly my "do it all" gun. I hunted deer, rabbit, squirrel, turkey, and dove with it. It also served as HD. It was also my skeet shooting gun.

Winchester 1300 with 21" turkey barrel. 12 guage. It was the only gun that I owned for a long time.

Maverick 88 12 gauge. I still own it and I still enjoy shooting with it.

Remington 870 Express in 20ga with 24" barrel. Not ideal, but it got the job done, I sold it like a fool. You'll probably hear that theme a lot.

First was only an old (1955) Smith Airweight in .38 Special with the shrouded hammer (in the nightstand drawer). Now I added an H. Koon "Snake Charmer" single shot .410 (under the bed). Also have an easily accessable Winchester model 12, and WASR-10 AK in the basement if things get ugly.

Mossberg 500, my Dad got me for my 18th birthday. I switched to a Beretta 92fs when I turned 21. The mossberg stayed on backup.

I still have both and enjoy shooting them.

My night-sighted Glock 22 fits the bill now.
