Your interactions with law enforcement while carrying...

And some apparently believe that the purpose of a concealed carry credential is to get you out of speeding tickets by notifying the cop that you're carrying (or NOT carrying) without it being required by law.
In Texas they require you to inform the officer if you have a CHL and a handgun. They've just done away with the criminal penalties for not doing so though from what I understand.

I've had my EMT cert get me out of tickets and I've had my CHL get me out of tickets. I've also had them not care and give me a ticket anyway. :Shrug

It's nice when that happens, but I don't believe that it'll happen or expect it too. I just wasn't carrying that day.

Ohio requires notification and it has penalties which attach for failure to do so.

In Ohio you are required to notify:
  1. if you are stopped for a LAW ENFORCEMENT PURPOSE
  2. if you have a CHL
  3. if, and ONLY IF, you are carrying a concealed firearm
Naturally some cops and some gun owners DEMAND that you notify when NOT carrying, which is of course NOT required by law. I don't do that and NEVER WILL.

Never ceases to amaze me how many people agree to the rules of road, violate them, and then say cops are jerks.

On the other hand, some cops don’t understand that they’re civilians, too, living and working among their fellow citizens. Same with military folks who think they’re some kind of special.

That said, I’ve had minimal interactions with police in the context of a stop or detention. All have been mostly professional. Being armed didn’t matter.

I’ve met many, many cops in my personal life, through work and friends, and I find them 90% unlikeable...slightly more than the rest of society.

We have discussed this numerous times before and it all boils down to the same basic things:
If you break the law don't be surprised if you get stopped.
If you do get stopped be polite and follow directions, even if you don't agree.
Some cops are jerks, most are not.
Follow the duty to notify laws in your state.
