i have been shooting winchester fmj and dont think its as accurate as i can get. so i would like to know what you shoot and what brand you like the best.

BTW im shooting an EMP .40 and the groups on speer gold dots are small but winchesters fmj are all over the place

I do not really care for Winchester White Box/Remington UMC etc FMJ's. They are usually dirty and group differently than other ammo for me. Federal American Eagle is good, Magtech was okay, PMC was okay, price to performance Blazer Brass was very good, Speer Lawman (TMJ) gave me the most consistent results.

cool, thats what i think i was having troubles with i will order some of the others you mentioned and try them

I just started shooting the 40 S&W quite recently. Remington UMC 180 grain fmj's group pretty well for me. 180 grain Hydrashocks group horribly. Well, they group well, but the group is low and left. I'm gonna have to run some different ammo through it before I start carrying it. I will agree with sxcamaro05, that Speer lawman groups are a bit tighter than the UMC's. I've only tried these three at this time.

Practice or SD?

Practice you cannot beat Blazer Brass or Federal Champion.

For SD The three best are Winchester 180gr Bonded [LE Ammo or PDX1] Federal 180gr HST and Spear 180gr.

I don't think I've tried a .40 load I didn't like. But I haven't bench rested my G27. :)

i tried American Eagle by Federal and PMC today, the American eagle was better then WWB but great the PMC was fairly accurate when compared to Speer Gold dot but wouldnt feed properly. So they are getting some Speer Lawman in stock for me to try.

Ran some Federal FMJs through my Taurus today at an actual paper target to check my accuracy. Sitting down, roughly 10 yards away, with a horrible cross-breeze, I got roughly 6/20 in the bullseye, with everything else headed outwards from there, but nothing outside the outermost ring on the target. Haven't shot my PDX-1s at a target yet, mainly because price prohibits me from replacing them currently. I'm dying to see how my pistol handles them though.

I've never had any accuracy issues with the Winchester white box ammo.
In fact, I haven't had any accuracy issues with any .40 ammo.

how far are you from the target? im approx 15 yards, withing 10yards its easy with anything.

im looking for something comparable to speer gold dot but cheaper for target use
