Right now my 2 CCW guns are a J-frame and a P32.

I am looking to buy my third CCW and I was wondering if you have any suggestions.

I would like:

A compact auto in either 9mm or .40

High quality

Priced new about $600 or less

Easy to carry and conceal

Any ideas?

:D :D :D

Thanks...

I hear a lot of good things about the CZ-75. And the couple that I've used have been very nice. Saem with Hi-Powers, though I find the CZ to be a more comfortable gun.

I find the CZs to be a little thick, though I really like their full size stuff.

Glock 26/27s are an excellent choice as is the Kahr family of handguns.

If the Sig 225 was still available I'd add that to the list, even though it's not really a 'compact'.
Same goes for the Beretta 92M, the single column compact version of the full size.

I carry a G30 primarily but have a Kahr 40 on my permit also.

You can't go wrong with either.

Your mileage may vary.

I forgot to mention one thing:

It must be also easy to use for a "lefty"...oops...I mean someone who is left handed!

:uhoh: :what: :scrutiny:

OK, I'm going to get slammed for saying this but I would recommend a Ruger P95. Everyone says it's bulky and heavy but I personally don't have any trouble carrying it concealed all day, every day . . . depends on the size of the person I guess. If you weigh a buck-oh-five soaking wet you might have trouble with any Ruger P-Series.

Reasons I recommend it:
1. Absolutely reliable.
2. Standard capacity magazines are plentiful and relatively inexpensive.
3. For me the natural point of aim is right on.
4. Price is WELL under your limit (Heck, get two for slightly over your limit!)
5. Ambidextrous controls (mag release, safety/decocker).

Just IMHO.

As long as you mentioned that you might consider a .40S&W, you might as well get a .45ACP, and my choice would be the S&W 457. There are other fine choices for CCWs mentioned on this thread, and they are definitely worth a look. IMHO, you need to practice hard with your CCW, which demands a shootable small gun, and the 457 is definitely shootable based on an excellent trigger and sights, and the .45 ACP gives a tactical advantage over .40 or 9mm. Reliability and accuracy are a given with this one.

Berg,

"... .45 ACP gives a tactical advantage over .40 or 9mm. Reliability and accuracy are a given with this one."

What?

Bigger bullet = tactical advantage? Huh? Could you elaborate?

David,

You do have many options given your parameters. You have many offerings in that price range that either have ambi-safeties or no manual safeties.

Pushing the $600 limit:

Kahr P, PM, K, MK series
Sig 239, 228

$450-$550 range:

Glock 19, 26, 23, 27

$350-450 range:

Springfield XD series

Sub $350:

Kel-tec: P11

No clue about overall pricing on my part:

Beretta 8000 and 9000 series
S&W roughly 1 to 1.5 billion different ones

My favorites in this list are the G19 and Springfield XD9.

thanks for your opinions...I will look into the options suggested...

:p :)
