Your thoughts on a S&W 5906

I bought 2 of them from CDNN. One of them was really pristine but the other one had gouges near the rear sight where some ape obviously abused it. Granted they are used but I tried to get them to trade it but no luck.

Other than that like all else I love em. There drawback is heavier but if you have to whack somebody with it it will leave a mark.

I have a 5906 and a 5946. Just wish there were reasonably priced magazines out there for them.

???

S&W 59 Series magazines are probably some of the most affordable around. Mec Gar 15 round aftermarket mags go for $20. The factory mags go for the low $30's all over. For the range there's Eagle Brand mags that go for about $12 a piece.

I'll second that, I've got one factory mag and 4 Mec Gars and they are all equally reliable.

Mec Gar makes excellent quality mags.

Sorry, I should have said affordable factory mags.

You can always sell blood, or that extra body part. :D

Just a mention about the mags - for the .40 cal (4006, 4043, 4046, etc) you can get (truly) almost new mags for $9.99 from CDNN.

Affordable factory mags are available if you search (high and low). About 6 months ago I purchased a bunch of used ones for $20 each. They were all from LE trade-ins, but the body, follower, and base were in great condition. Springs felt a bit on the weak side, but it's an inexpensive replacement.

MecGar makes the factory mags for a bunch of Sig models. They are as good as it gets. One needs not worry one whit in buying MecGar mags -- they'll work at least as well as factory mags.

I should also mention that I had 3 of the Eagle 17 rnd. mags. This week at the range, one of them failed to feed after the first two rounds fed. The spring had set in it, and I was able to pour the rounds out of the mag. I rapped the mag base against the heel of my hand and the follower jumped back up with the front of the follower pointing up to the lips. Then another tried to do the same thing. I took the mag out and the spring extended with the rounds jumbled up inside. I held a retirement ceremony for them at the range. This was their third use.

I have a few of the 17 rd. Eagle mags for my Beretta 92FS, and the baseplates weren't even screwed together correctly! I got them for $5 each, so I didn't expect much, and I didn't get much. I have a Ket-Tec Sub2000 that takes Beretta mags and they work ok in it, not great, but in my 92, they have a lot of problems. Factory mags, Mecgar, and even those ugly ones with the rough finish made by some pager company work great, but I learned a lesson to pass on Eagles, no matter how cheap they are.

If you guys had the mags, and the springs bit it, why not just get replacement factory springs and see if the base, body, and follower are any good with a higher quality engine in them?
