Over the weekend I glommed several rifles and this Yugo Mauser barreled action. I'm trying to determine whether this is an M48, 24/47 or 24/52C receiver. The barrel is unidentified with an unknown caliber.

The auction description advises that it is a Czech Mauser, but I'm not sure what that is based on.

CZECH MAUSER RECEIVER MARKED 44
CAL UNKNOWN, W/ LUEPOLD SCOPE BASE & SS 24" FLUTED TARGET BRL, SER# W23505.

Hey Mustang

Those are the exact same markings on the reciever of my M48A Yugo, but mine is in standard military dress and 8mm.
If you decide you don't want that action I'll be very interested in it.

According to Branko's book it started out as a vz24 or g24t (M24/52C). That's the HTP stamp. The ***44 is the factory name in Cyrillic letters. The ***44 can be found on almost all models of Yugo Mausers.

The barrel has been replaced. The only way to know what caliber it is is to slug the bore and cast the chamber. You can make a nice custom rifle with what you have. chris3

The Yugo Mausers are 8mm....chris3

Mauser Info

Measure the distance center to center from the rear action screw to the from action screw to determine if it is truly a M48, which is an intermediate action as opposed to a standard 98.

You've got enough mausers, try the bolt from the 24/52c in this one and see if it fits. If it does, it started as a VZ24 -> 24/52C -> travesty. :) If the bolt's too long, it was an M48, 24/47, or something else like that.

I still hate you, but not so much for this one. ;)

Matt.

I can determine what kind of Mauser it is once it arrives. I was hoping someone might see see something in the pictures that would clue them as to what it is.

It will probably be a couple of weeks before it gets here...guess I'll just have to be patient.

The rifles that I got at an on-line auction last month finally arrived at my FFL. I got a chance to look them over, including this barrelled action, before they went into the safe for the 10 day waiting period.

I was able to determine that the action is a 24/52C full length 98 action and that the barrel is chambered in .308 caliber.

I'll need to get a few things...the bolt is not complete and the bolt stop is missing. There are no trigger parts, but I was going to put a Timney on it anyway.

Better pics when the "cooling off" period is over.

I was wrong about this receiver...I popped the scope mount off it and it is an M48...

It is chambered in .308 and has an 8 groove barrel. I've never seen a barrel with 8 grooves before. It looks unfired.
