A Handgun You Used To Hate

I used to be fixated on Glocks and didn't think much of the 1911, now I don't think much of Glocks and strongly favor 1911s. Specifically Colts.

I also think revolvers are cool now, mainly older Smith & Wessons and Colt Pythons.

I used to hate the full size Glocks. I bought and shortly sold a Glock 22.

These days I only maintain that they are visually unpleasant ...It's the mini Glocks that I find repulsive.

I used to hate anything resembling a 1911. The US military officially abandoned it in '85, I carried an Uncle Sam issued-rattle trap until '91 on active duty - and all the 1911s in the company armory looked as if they had been carried ashore at D-Day; it just represented the old school to me. It also seemed the more Chuck Taylor and others in the gun press praised its merits and derided anything made of aluminum, polymer and chambered in 9mm Para the more disdain I had for 1911s. I had my USP, G17, P1, BHP and bought 9mm ammo by the caseload; who needed the 'old' 1911 and .45 ACP?! Well, I have since handled, fired and owned a few commercial 1911s which of course are far and away better than anything Uncle Sam ever put in my holster and I have come to appreciate the timelessness of it's design. I have also never warmed to the subcompact and minigun 9mm designs and refuse to pay the outrageous prices for pre-ban hicap mags for all of my full-size 9mm. So, instead of limiting myself to a 10 rnd. mag in a full size 9mm gun I can better appreciate and justify! a similar in size 1911 with 8 and 10 rnd mags. The fact that I shoot the .45 a hell-of-a-lot better now than 10 years ago might also factor in to the equation.:p

I never liked revolvers until fairlly recently. I didn't like how they fit my hand, I didn't like the DA trigger pull, and I didn't like that they held only six shots. It didn't help much that my first gun was an old Enfield #2 Mk1* .380 Brit revolver which is not the finest example of the breed.

Then, a couple years ago, I bought a S&W 28-2 and fell in love. I shoot that gun better then my auto's. It recently gained a little brother when I bought a K-frame Model 10 for my wife. That gun is even more accurate than the 28-2! Now I'm actively looking for more old S&W wheelguns at good prices.
