Subject: Campaign Update - please vote this Tuesday

Friends,

Our campaign to bring experienced, effective and positive leadership to the State Senate is on track for a big victory on Tuesday. We have and will continue to run a positive and issues-oriented campaign. I thank the many of you who have called, e-mailed and lent additional support as mail piece after mail piece, automated call after automated call tried to distort and even fabricate my record of service as State Representative for 10 years. If even half of the things said and written about me were true, my own dog would have bitten me.

To briefly refute a few points.

#1. The so-called "fight" occurred on the last day of the 1994. The longest reigning House Speaker in the country at the time, Tom Murphy, tried to take a swing at me on tghe House floor for standing up and asking questions about the state budget. Murphy wasn't used to Republicans, especially those using the rule book effectively and asking questions. Enough said.

#2 I have never sponsored legislation regarding firearms and teachers or schools. Period. All legislation, including mine, can be found at the official Georgia Generaly Assembly web site. No such bill alleged by opponent ever existed. Ask him for proof. None exists.

I have and continue support the use of campus police, school resource officers and other full time law enforcement to protect our children in school. More and more middle and high schools in Georgia employ armed personnel on campus. I believe this includes most Cobb and Fulton middle and high schools.

#3 Education related. It was my amendment that protected the HOPE scholarship (http://www.mitchellkaye.com/hope.html) and though my efforts Sec. 529 College Savings Plans were enacted. Other school related measures that I co-sponsored were also adopted. Please keep in perspective that I was an outspoken Republican in a Democrat controlled House. They controlled all legislation. Newt Gingrich never passed one piece of legislation in his 16 years in the minority, but most would agree he was quite effective.

Just so you know, I have been endorsed in this race by almost all the legislators representing East Cobb and Sandy Springs. I have also served in Republican leadership and have been elected and re-elected 5 times. Could this have been possible if these allegations against me were even partially true?

I also have the support of many teachers, principals and others who support education. This support includes financial assistance as well as many yard signs. Although I have the support of many classroom teachers, in all my races I have never been supported by the Cobb County Association of Educators, their Georgia affiliate the GAE or their national affiliate the NEA (National Education Association). While many of their membership are fine educators and people, their leadership's political philosophy runs Democrat. Although we agree on some issues, I disagree with them as I do not support the right of teachers or any public employee to strike. Period. This past year the GAE named 4 legislators as "Legislator of the Year" - all Democrats. Not one Republican was worthy of that award. That should tell you something.

My three children, ages 14, 13, and 10 have been great campaginers for me along with my wife and many of you. These children, like yours are very impressionable. My wife and I have tried to teach them to do the right thing and that two wrongs don't make a right. And the end does not justify the means.

We have and will continue to run a positive campaign. I've won races before and lost too. What was common in all of those elections was that the sun rose the next day and life continued on. Protecting my family and raising my children properly are more important to me than trashing another individual and benefitting from it. I think the quote is from Proverbs..."what good does it do a man if he conquers the world and loses his soul in the process..."

I still need your help!!! Please call you friends, neighbors, and other circles of influence and urge them to get out and vote on Tuesday and vote for Mitchell Kaye for State Senate. Let's prove that good people can finish first. Even if you didn't vote on July 20th, you can still vote in the GOP Runoff.

And if you hear anything that sounds strange and typical of a desperate campaign, please call me at 770-998-6694 or e-mail me and I will set the record straight.

Thank you for all your help!!! See you in the winner's circle on Tuesday.

Mitchell Kaye
for State Senate, District 32

secure online contributions are accepted at http://www.mitchellkaye.com/contribute.htm

Thanks for reading my e-mail. It is because of YOU and this wonderful community of ours, that I have chosen to serve the people in the State Senate.

The flyer I recieved from Kaye's opponant Judson Hill stated:

"Worse still, Kaye's extreme proposals theraten our children. "Teachers' groups are blasting a proposal from a Georgia legislator [Mitchell Kaye] who wants educators to carry weapons..." (CNN May 21, 1998)"

Even without verification that cemented my vote for Kaye. Hill's whining sounds as though he WANTS another Columbine or is using scare tactics to get votes, neither of which I can support.

VOTE TOMORROW IN THE RUNOFF!!
