I bought a used Remington 770 in .300 WinMag last week and I it is even more accurate then I anticapitited it being and it is by far more accurate then I am. Once I got it zeroed I was able to get 3 shots touching at 100 yards there was a slight wind about 3-5 miles per hour and there was a lite rain at some points and the tempature was in the 40's.

Now to the question I know that I will not be able to make as smooth as say a Remington 700 but is there a way to make the action smoother ?

I have wondered the same thing, i did lube it up with some gun oil, it helped some but not what i wanted. I have just accepted it. If you do figure something out let me know!

All safety rules apply. Be sure rifle is unloaded and pointed in a safe direction. I use JB Bore Paste. Cover the bolt rails with it. Place the bolt into the receiver and start working the bolt back and forth. When the JB paste appears to be worn out, it isn`t - keep working that bolt. Do it every day during your spare time. Have the wife do it during her spare time. Yes. You may apply more JB Bore Paste on the bolt rails. After about a month of this your bolt action will be butter smooth. guaranteeed. You will notice a smoother bolt after only two or three days of working the action with rails covered with JB Bore Paste. It may not take you a month to achieve your goal for the bolt. When you have the bolt smoothed as you prefer, clean off all of the JB Bore Paste from the bolt and from inside the reciever rails.
NOTE-Be certain that you DO NOT get any JB Bore Paste inside the chamber/bore/barrel. If you do, complete thorough cleaning must be done before firing the rifle.

Second that on the JB, or any very fine abrasive polishing compound, Flitz works well , you can even use toothpaste. I just did a CZ Safari American using Flitz but only did it for a couple of hours and it is noticabely smoother. I will let normal use complete wearing things in.

I used Flitz and then lubed lightly with CoirrsionX!
JB might be faster but I had Flitz on hand.

Google plate +.

I have used this or another liquid moly on all of my rifles and pistols and the effect is excellent. I used it on a Savage .17 HMR bolt and the thing is silky smooth.

The stuff makes the metal smooth as glass.

You can treat a trigger group instead of a trigger job. It is amazing what just making the parts very slick does.

Bore paste or any other abrasive accelerates wear. Moly leaves the parts in new condition and reduces wear because it reduces friction. Cheapest improvement you can make.

I've never felt the need to do it, but I'd bet that an afternoon with a bottle of polish would fix that issue. AND it makes your rifle look pretty.
