If you could only have one handgun, what would it be?

Has anyone noticed???

I just reviewed all 4 pages of replys and
1. Many would carry the revolver and...
2. That revolver would be in 357 mag!
Now ain't that a hoot!? The gun rags would have you think the 1911 is the king, but this thread definitely shows our belief in the tried and try revolver and in the #1 manstopper...the 357 mag!

I'm restricted to target shooting here in Australia, so I would go with my Glock 17, as I made the Aussie IPSC team with it a few years ago.

If carry was an legal then I would trade it for a S&W model 642.

If hunting was an legal then a S&W model 66 with a six inch barrel would suit me well.

If only one handgun and no others. It would depend on where I lived. For the places I am most likely to be and could only have one handgun it would be a 4-inch M-19 K-Frame S&W.

Yeppity yep.

Well you have to expect the revolvers to come out in this one gun thing.

When you say one gun the gun become a hunting arm, animal defence arm, and a personal combat arm.

Those that only have guns for personal defense might well stay with the Auto.

Those that want to do multiple things might easily slip into a revolver.

"manstopper...the 357 mag!"

For me its more like big fanged and clawed thing stopper.
In the boondocks I have carried 2" .38 Spl or .45 1911,
for unpleasant folk encounters, but have decided the
worst threat is probably a bear.

So its 158gr JSP .357 purely for unavoidable kill-or-be-bit
(so far we have been able to keep our man-bear
encounters mutually distant and respectful which is how I
prefer such encounters).

One tough question!

I'll answer this question in 2 ways. If this was a revolver question it would be hands down a S&W model 19 with a 4" barrel. I like the versatility of 357 & 38 special. Now for the 2nd part, if I could only have a semi auto it would be a ruger P90, 45 acp. Shoots anything, accurate, totally reliable, ammo available everywhere. NRA PATRON LIFE MEMBER

Count me in, too. S&W .357 Mag. The hard part is picking between my 50's era 3.5" N-Frame or my new 8-shooter...:)

Glock 26...

...because it can be on me to do what handguns are supposed to do - nothing more not less. It is the first pistol I had bought and the last that will stay. The rest of 'em are toys for the pleasure of shooting.

SniperStraz, I do have my ccw permit and carry a fair amount. Most of the time, I end up throwing my 38spl model 60 in my pocket, but have carried full size pistols and revolvers concealed. If I were limited to just one it would be a 22lr. Ideally, I would like a 4" model 63, but this is what I have and shoot well, so im sticking with it. For social or hunting situations I have a couple rifles and shotguns.
