Has anyone replaced the action spring with a Wolff extra power recoil spring on a Remington 1100? If so, can you feel the difference. Will it hurt the shotgun shooting trap & skeet loads only. Thanks, Hank

Why do you think you need an extra power spring? The gas moves everything back, the action spring just moves things back forward. If it's cycling it's almost certainly okay. I am on a one man quest not to change springs that don't need changing, in spite of the almost universal "change the spring" advice. All four of my 1100s, from a '63 bought new to a '79, all have all the original springs, and they all run flawlessly, and the buffers are fine too.

Testify, brother Virginian, testify! :)

It's almost amusing to see so many threads on so many gun forums talking about "I have this problem and all I did was change the springs, which according to all the other internet commandos should only help".

I don't have the fortitude for the quest, but I sometimes do feel like sending some of these good folks a basic gunsmithing book.

Don't touch it. You will be tampering with Perfection. lol .Best shooting, cycling, shotgun ever made in my opinion or I would not have so many.

My Remington has become very sluggish. When I fire it the action seems to be in slow motion. Hank

Clean the ports first. Bruce Buck used to wear 1100s out when he shot competitive skeet "back in the day". He always told me to replace the spring every 10,000 rounds so as not to beat the buffer or receiver to death - he learned that the hard way - whether you need "extra power" springs, or just direct replacements, that's your call to make
