I sent the following correspondence to "Gun Stocks Inc". What do you think about the deal? Sounds pretty reasonable to me. I mean, you can spend a lot more on a stinkin' plastic rifle stock. Someone here posted an old double they'd had redone by these guys and I was rather impressed with it.

We can duplicate the stocks if they are useable as a patern, The duplicating costs for buttstocks are usually $85.00 & forends $45.00 in semi-finished plain walnut + shipping but I would need to see the gun to give a firm quote.
Duplicateing would require you to send us the gun without the barrels.

Subject: restocking an old shotgun

I have an old Felix Sarasqueta Spanish built double I bought back in 1971. The stock has beat around in the bottom of boats on duck hunts, ain't very pretty, and the fore end split. I drilled it and put a dowel through it to make it servicable. But, I'd really like to spiff this old gun up and make it semi presentable again.

I'm wondering about the cost of doing this?

Thanks.

"semi-inished" means you will have to do a good deal of detail work. Not for the person that thinks a Dremel tool is the answer to everything.

Unles you are an experienced wood worker, I recommend against it.

That seems like a fair price, but as clang said, be ready for some work. I restocked a L C Smith double with exposed hammers made in 1913 and used a semi inletted stock from Fajen. It took me about 70 hours to get the stock completely fitted and sanded for the finish. I had never done this before and I doubt I will ever do it again, but I wanted to use this shotgun and that was the only way. The stock came out very nice and I took great pains to fit everything perfectly.

It will take some work, but you will be proud of what you did.

Yeah, I got that in an e-m today and decided I'd go for just the fore end and refinish the butt stock. The fore end is cracked and needs replacement and there's not much out there for replacement on a gun that's been out of production over 30 years and never was that popular in the first place. So, I'm going to send 'em the fore end. It's pretty simple and I think I can fit it, but I don't think I'm up to fitting a butt stock and don't wish to pay someone to do it. If I can't do the fore stock and wind up getting someone to fit it, at least I'm only out 45 bucks on it.

Thanks for the tips, guys.
