After looking at it, I think it looks like an airsoft accessory.
I feel that it may serve to allow the subbie to fold; I'm unsure of the durability & ruggedness - the imported, inexpensive parts are of dubious utility, IMO.
Just one opinion .....

Yeah when I searched for the product directly on google, I was indeed finding mostly Airsoft related sites selling the product. not sure what that means in terms of securing an optic on a real firearm, holding zero, etc....but for less than $10 I have no illusions of grandeur about the quality of the product. In my experience, this sort of thing is usually made in Asia from the cheapest possible materials although I've personally found the biggest differences in quality are usually in the finish...I'd expect a functional product but with some rough edges, spurs, poor coating/anodization, etc.

I personally do not buy into the whole American-made thing, particularly with parts like this. Of course, if I have the option at the same price point, I will always choose USA made stuff but that is purely for the sake of our economy/jobs. anyways getting off topic :)

I just try to find what best serves the intended purpose. If it comes from the , all the better.
If it comes from Germany or another country & it's the best solution, I'll buy it. I'm not as price-sensitive as others; my preference is for good design & quality + utility, especially for firearms I may need to depend on.

I have been studying the Sub 2K platform at length for a couple of weeks now. I recently became aware of the Gen 2 model. It looks like a very interesting gun and so popular that no local retailers have one in stock. I have a Glock 19 pistol with lots of mags. I would really like to be able to use the Glock 19 mags but it looks like the Gen 2 Sub 2K grip is different than the Gen 1. There seems to be a grip plug on the bottom side preventing one from just sanding off enough to make the G-19 mags fit. I will probably just buy a whole bunch of G-17 mags since they will also work in my G-19 pistol also. It would be nice to only have one type of magazine though. Any thoughts?

ok i know this may not be the response you were looking for...but IMO, the best solution for your situation(G19) is to just suck it up and buy a bunch of G17/33 Mags....the key reason is that you can essentially have just "one type of magazine" like you said. All you do is keep one G19 magazine to load into your Glock whenever your carrying it concealed, holstered, etc and then G17 mags for everything else including spare ammo/reload situations. I actually was reading about some cops who use that exact setup for their service weapon & even some who used G17 mags in their G19s at all times not sure why but I think I could find a link....

you could also get one of the grip extender things to use on the magazine you keep loaded in the gun and just switch over to G17 mags entirely....it would just add a tiny bit of length to the grip frame and keep things smooth for concealment/holsters.

There are many vendors selling magazines for the G-17 at good prices & Magpul has introduced their version, also.

The illustration below will show the X-Grip slip-on for the G-17 mag to fit the Glock 19. I like them & use 'em ;)

That's what I thought too. Last night I found a store on Gunbroker selling OEM G-17 mags in lots of 5 for $99 with free S&H. I went ahead and bought 5 mags so I should be good now. Thanks all for the advice. If anyone wants to see the listing where I bought mine, here it is:

They already shipped. The guy is fast. Can't wait to double my magazine count. Back to the Sub 2K discussion.

Does anyone know if the barrel is still epoxied in or is it attached in a different way?

yeah thats a good deal for OEM mags...

one thing worth mentioning...not sure if you've already found a sub2000 yet but just FYI, I've heard that Kel-Tec runs their manufacturing process in large, model-specific batches. for example they will produce a batch of Glock 17/22 Sub2000s all at once, stop, and then swtch over to start producing a bunch of Berretta models. This certainly seems to be the case with both the Gen1s and the Gen2s up until now....this only adds to the elusiveness of the gun. so that being said, it may be worth it to find one ASAP since you've already purchased the G17 mags.

right now they aren't too difficult to find and I know of a few local places that have the G17 9mm Luger version in stock. This could change very quickly and you might end up having to pay $600 for one on gunbroker. Also, I expect the demand and value of the Glock model Sub2ks will only increase with time, especially if they stop producing them(even if its only temporary). Hope this helps.

BTW, your best bet for finding a gen2 right now is smaller, local gun shops or outdoor stores that do not have a strong online/website presence.

allivak,

I have a place that is going to email me when they get one in stock. It is a far better price than most other places I have looked. I agree that supply will probably not be getting any better. Especially coming up on an election year. :fire: I have a price point selected and I will snap up the first one I see that meets that.

(Response from another board)
"In the Gen 1 it is threaded into a steel knurled insert that is molded into the hinge. I am assuming they stuck with the same mechanism (edit: for the Gen 2) but I really don't know."

woot I think I finally figured out a solution to our little optic-mount problem....

how about using this:
mi_mlok2kmod.jpg

to mount something like this:

Could you explain the advantage of using that Keymod/M-Lok adapter and Keymod offset mount, versus an M-Lok rail section and picatinny offset mount?

I just ordered these 3 items for a simailr setup, hoping they will still alow the rifle to fold:

Taurus-
thats a smart approach to making a gun purchase. wish I would of had more patience myself. just keep your fingers crossed that Kel-Tec hasn't stopped pumping out the Glock 17/22 models yet....in fact it might be worth it to call up Kel-Tec and ask them about this directly. They have been promising the non-glock models are coming soon.

Captains-
its the same setup in theory....the keymod version should give a lower clearance setup and keep your optic closer to the gun...not to mention the exact same offset mount in keymod was significantly cheaper than its Mlok counterpart. otherwise I'm not really sure if there's any advantage.

I saw the new Nutnfancy review of the S2KG2. VERY cool looking gun. Would be the perfect low profile portable urban survival rifle.

some Sub2K Gen 2 target practice at an indoor range....

All shots were fired from an unsupported standing position using 115g Winchester Whitebox FMJs....I did have my vertical grip installed.

PS...thats not a flyer on the left hand side....I just completely missed wide left on my first shot at 35yards(shooter error)....this thing is deadly accurate. I just can't wait to stretch this baby out at 75-150 yards...

Nope not yet, had some unexpected expenses this month and decided it was best to hold off for now. FWIW, I am gonna go ahead and order one of those cheap $10 airsoft mounts we were discussing and see how it mounts to the Sub2k's upper rail and check the clearance, fit, sturdiness, etc....that way I can at least narrow down my mount options(and the associated costs) while I'm saving up. Would be awesome if I can get this to work with just a single $10 cheap-o mount.

Anyways. all my shooting so far has been with the factory iron sights(MUCH improved over Gen1)and I've yet to adjust them once...they must sight the guns in at the factory, because this thing came out of the box shooting absolute darts at 50 yards and under!

I am LOVING the S2KG2.

Perfect urban combat survival rifle IMHO. I do want one quite badly. Last night, I actually found one on Gunbroker for $3.00 below MSRP!!! :D

I sure wish Kel Tec could keep up with demand, but I bet it's tough.

Have you all seen the new Nutnfancy review on this gun? It's a good review.

its truly an awesome gun and I feel that if any other company had produced this exact same gun, particularly the gen 2 model, it would be fetching a $700-$1k+ MSRP with no questions asked. this thing is just so versatile...

first of all, its an amazing plinker/range gun for shooters of all levels. the 9mm Glock version is particularly appealing for this purpose because not only is 9mm one of the cheapest, most accessible calibers in terms of ammo, but in this small sized, rifle-length package it is extremely tame, fun, and easy to shoot. should be great for smaller framed people and women and children....
I can imagine this being very popular with the family/friends when your at the range....especially when you add 33rd Glock mags to the equation!

It also makes an awesome home defense weapon either alongside a shotgun/AR or if your like me, in place of them....obviously those guns serve very different purposes and I'm not suggesting you do the same as me...but I can tell tell you from fondling this weapon for the last month its PERFECT for inside the home or outside in the yard. I would absolutely prefer to grab this in the middle of the night facing a break-in or a disturbance outside etc. IMO, the Sub2000 would excel in very the same home/self defense situations where maybe a shotgun is traditionally recommended or preferred(in place of a handgun or rifle). It would also make an excellent gun to keep in your vehicle for the same sort of reasons.

Third, this gun would def rock as an "urban combat survival rifle" as you put it...again the 9mm version being particularly attractive for this role. Being able to scavenge an amazingly popular handgun cartridge like the 9mm is just priceless. I can't think of many guns more ideal in these scenarios than a Suppressed Sub2kG2 in 9mm luger.

As far as Nutnfancy reviews....I've actually watched both of his reviews on the Sub2k and I also found them to be very good and informative. His philosophy of use stuff is pretty good(active shooter response gun for LEO is a neat idea). My only gripes would be his terrible optic setups and his dismissal of the 9mm round's "stopping power", although to be fair he says this about all 9mm caliber guns including pistols. www.ballisticsbytheinch.com says differently....muzzle energy is very comparable between a Sub2k and a SBR AR-15.

I received the sight, offset mount, and M-Lok rail yesterday (See Post #164 above), kudos to Primary Arms for super fast shipping, and they work just fine with plenty of room to spare. The rifle folds and locks with no problem, there's at least 1/4" of clearance between the sight and bolt tube when it's folded, even with a rubber tube cover. I didn't have a lot of time yesterday other than to slap them on real fast and take a quick photo, but I will take some better pics and post them this weekend.

Looks good to me, Captains1911 :)
Good to know that there was plenty of clearance when folded. I'd like to see more pics when you get the time.

You know, some will make the argument that these 9mm pistol caliber carbines aren't tactically sound since you might as well go with a rifle cartridge if you're going to use a gun as big and heavy as a rifle to begin with.

BUT, the Sub 2K turns that notion on it's head.

The gun weighs just over 4 lbs. Show me a factory AR or AK that weighs that, or even a different 9mm carbine, and we'll talk. AND much more importantly, the Sub 2K folds in half into a total length of 16.25".

Even an AR-16 broken down in a carrying bag isn't even as close to as short as that. And, the Kel Tec can be put into action in just a couple of seconds, vs. the AR where you've got to line up the pin holes and all that jazz.

This is one reason why I think the Sub 2K is the perfect concealable, portable, hell almost POCKETABLE long gun! With good hollow point ammo, the gun is highly effective. And why choose carrying it over a pistol? You get a much better control over the weapon, and due to more steadiness and an increased sight picture, you boost the effective range of the pistol quite significantly and increase hit probability at all ranges. There is also a nice boost in power from the 16" barrel on the carbine vs. the 4-5" barrel of the typical 9mm service pistol.

And, if you CCW a Glock 26 or Glock 19, a Sub 2K is an absolute no brainer. Not only can you carry the same ammo and it'll work in both weapons, but the same magazines can work as well.

Really, if you ask me, the Sub 2K just makes so much sense. No, it's not as powerful as an AR-15, but it can go places virtually no other long gun can go and it is extremely easy to carry around all day long. If stuff goes down, like during an active shooter situation, I'd much rather have the Kel Tec deployed vs my CCW pistol for all the above mentioned reasons, and if the Kel Tec goes down you can still use the same mags and ammo in your CCW G26 or G19.

Something to think about. I REALLY want one of these new Sub 2000s!
