Another reason why in regard to handguns, yes, your ammo should be effective against badguys in vehicles. I am not going to debate that subject here and divert the thread - just mentioning it so those reading it can keep it in mind for OTHER threads.

And yes, rifles are the first choice in self defense. Your handgun is to get you to your rifle, or make do if you do not have a rifle handy.

That is exact same video that is in the first link I posted.

For clarification, condition of the third person being in critical condition was from a radio broadcast, I can't find confirmation of that online. Sure we will know later if that report is correct.

Hopefully that person will be charged with the murder of the other two if and when they recover.

So something happened on the previous night and the homeowner was on guard on the second night. Interesting. There has got to be some back story, bad dealings, grudge, etc.

the photos of the casings in the street look like 22LR. A bit under gunned...

"On Friday, the day before the shooting, officers said arson investigators were called to
the same home after someone attempted to set the home on fire..."

Hence the man on guard outside his home in the dead of the next night.

Right, but we're trying to figure out why he was targeted at all. When someone tries to burn your house down and then does a drive by on you the next night, it doesn't scream random.

I didn't see any mention of an AR15 anywhere. Surely the guy wasn't standing in his front yard with an AR trimming the hedges.

As for the motive, I would lean towards gang activity. Perhaps he was from a rival gang and there was some dispute, or perhaps he was a good guy who had crossed them by not playing ball or had been a witness against them or some such thing. I can't wait to hear the whole story on this one.

You don't normally do sentry patrols of your front yard at 3am?

Amateur :p
If there was a previous incident, threat, or such like and reason to believe they might follow through, whatever, yes there might be good reason to break out the musket and stand guard.

Watch the news report in the first link. The reporter talked to his brother who said he had one, practiced with it, and used it last night.

He was standing in his front yard defending his family, property and himself with it.

Now there's a stunning hypothesis!

Obviously, there's more to the story. Doesn't take much nowadays, a perceived slight will do it, to invoke a little bit of the old ultra violence.

Deliberate arson of an inhabited/family dwelling in the darkest hours of the morning is not a "property" crime.
It is arguably attempted murder.
In KY it is specifically written into the law as a justification for the use of lethal force.

I didn't see any mention of an AR15 anywhere......the comment was made on the news report that a AR15 was used by the homeowner.

In Texas criminal mischief at night - which would include arson - can be a justification for deadly force. A drive by shooting at/into a home would also be a justification even if there were no persons actually inside the home at the time because of the damage to property potential.
