Glock ergonomics just don't work for me so for me I'd get the XDm 40 and have I sold the G23 I originallybought to start my 40 collection and now own a 3.8 compact and a 5.25 competition.
But for you I think I'd go with the Glock as you said you like the platform and it would be nice to have a 9mm to practice with.

Thanks for all the input guys I went with the G17 , it will match up well with the other Glocks I have , If the XDM is on the shelf for a while I mat still take another look at it :) But here are a few pictures of it $420 out the door factory box with all the candy and it still has the copper anti seize in the rails looks to of not been fired or fired very little

XDm has a better barrel. If I recall correctly it also has a grip safety. Beyond that they are pretty even so se the 40 bucks and get the XDm.

You just posted your purchased gun...mistake in my mind. I hope that XDm hangs around for a while.

I have an xd 45 with thousands of rounds thru without one single hiccup. As far as "not being able to shoot it because someone could not get the right grip on it", that someone is either limp wristing or just has no idea how to grip a gun. No excuse for not being able to fire. Glocks are fine weapons, but their grip angle will ruin you from ever being able to shoot another gun accurately or competitively. Glock grip angle will help someone with weak wrists lockout better however.

Aside... I really have a hard time understanding how someone can hold/grip an xd series pistol and NOT depress the grip safety enough to fire it every time. I’m sure it happens as posted above—I just don’t understand how.

Timed event, new shooters, they panicked and didn't get a good grip

Awesome, congrats! I think you got a great deal.

I don’t believe this is true at all. The handguns I mostly shoot are Glock's, by far. The handguns I shoot the most accurately are 1911's, by far.

Probably because you mix it up. I know countless people who have nothing but Glocks and shoot them fine, but cant hit a car hood with anything else. Like I said, Glocks are fine weapons but do have the strangest grip angle available. It does help lock the wrist though.

Around a hundred out of about 18 thousand departments, are there any that we might have heard of?

Wow! If an elite military like Indonesia uses them, I think I better run out and get one. Thanks!

Who cares? We are not in a military unit and this in no way has ever directed my purchasing.

HS2000--decent gun for the price---slap the Springfield name on and add $200 to the price---no thanks

I tried to give the XDS a fair shake when looking for a single stack 9mm-----was a weird scaly thing and just couldn't do it----I bought the Shield and a second one in .45 a little later.

There's nothing that Springfield slaps their name on these days that I would buy-------------you did good with the Glock

I agree. I carry and shoot Glocks most, but have no difficulty picking up my 1911s (second most shot or carried) BHP or Sigs and shooting accurately and fast.

Revolvers too.

Just gotta, ya know, practice.

I have a Glock 17 but have never been a big fan of it as far as it's ergonomics go. Having said that I would go with it over the XDm .40 as it's overall fit and shooting comfort for my smaller size hands is even worse than the Glock.

I HAD a couple of Springfields, I HAVE a couple of glocks. For a striker fired gun there really isn’t anything out there that’s better than the glock 17 if it fits you or if you’re like me and glocks don’t fit you extremely well but perform well for you none the less. I will say the stock trigger for the xdm is better than the glocks. But glocks aftermarket is better and easier to work on yourself. Personally I like the ppq over all the other strikers. Enjoy your g17 and it should last a lifetime

So what's it with this guy's video about springfield xd's (he doesn't like them and claims no instructors like them either):

I like the .40 better than the 9mm but I like Glock much more than Springfield. I've had a few XDM's in the past and while there are some good features of the XDM lineup, the gun feels tall (high bore axis) the trigger sucked compared to Glock, plus I can't help but now view Springfield Armory as a shady company. Maybe it's years of use talking but I for one actually really like the Glock trigger, the closest Springfield has got to the Glock trigger is their XDS lineup, but it's still not as good.

Just one more opinion. CZ takes them both out. Same money basically, better triggers, better accuracy, functionally equal, just not as, much aftermarket crap.

Looks like he's had a few too many trips to Mcdonalds to be so critical. So, "law enforcement doesn't use it" so it must not be any good. Springfield and Glocks are equal in so many ways. Man, how did Rob Latham win so many championships with his XD going "poo poo". This guys a plain ole poser, nothing more.

If that Gen4 17 has the TALO tritium front sight and you still don’t want it, I’ll take it for $420!

I'm not a fan of the XD or XDM. Most people will just say one is better then the other or they like one more then the other. But I will say why I don't care for them . They tend to be top heavy and don't balance well in my hand. The gap between the back plate and the frame is so big you could fit a dog in there. Well, a small dog. ;) Or a lot of trash. But I have no problem with other people having them.
My good friend didn't care for them. Called them the Serbo Croat Spl. Oh! and their Customer service sucks because, when you call about an issue and you are told to go watch a Youtube video, that's service.
Oh! Glocks are not that bad.:p
