I have found a deal I think both guns are like new in box with all factory candy , The first one is a XDM 40 $380 and the second one is a G17 Gen 4 Talo $420 ,
I know these are different calibers and not interested or intending to ask about the 9 or 40 as I reload for both and have components for both, this will be used as a range gun mostly
I have several G23's and lots of 40 cal ammo and one 9mm a VP9 and I load ammo for it as needed
as my son mostly shoots the VP9 and I mostly shoot the G23, on one hand it would be nice to have
another 40 platform like the XDM as I have read they a great range guns "never shot an xdm but have shot the xd just fine" and on the other hand it would be nice to shoot 9mm with the my son with one caliber on the bench. So I am having a hard time deciding on this one and I only have cash in hand of one,
I put a poll up with these 2 choices only between these two and the prices what say you guys ?

For me it's about ergonomics....I find the XD grip shape to be much more comfortable than a Glock. As far as comparing the reliability of those two I'd say it's a toss up........I owned Glock's early on based on reputation.....Now there are no Glock's in my poly gun collection.....just one Springfield XD Mod 2 4" service model.....In reality I'm an all-metal gun kinda guy so my preference for certain types of weapons is limited.

I've been to a couple of classes with people who carried XDs and seen them unable to fire the gun when they couldn't get the right grip on it. I'd never carry one.

Have several Glocks, a Sig, S&W, Colt, etc. My Glock 17 is by far my favorite & the one I shoot best.

Well yea, they are ergonomic, but this is XDm, not plain old XD. The XDm grip "texture" is insane. It's clearly intended for people shooting in gloves. It left pretty deep impression (ha ha) in my palms in .45, I imagine a .40 XDm is going to a hand-full (ha!).

My shooting buddy has both. We've shot them both a lot. He shoots the Glock better. So do I.

I'd go with the Glock. I had a XDM 40 which I sold. It was a good shooter, but it did fail to go into battery from time to time. I've never had an issue with any of the Glocks I've owned. Another consideration is the backlash against Springfield. I mentioned this in another post, but I was in a LGS recently (in the Chicago area) that was advertising a number of their SA's below their cost. There were quite a few customers there, all of which walked by the SA's without looking. Their value has dropped, and if you decide to sell it expect to take a loss.

My XDm was a 9mm and I found the grip to be excellent.

This thread is coming up on 7 hours. Any decision yet?
FYI, I don't have any XD models, but do have several Glocks.

What will be most interesting to this thread is not what we think but what the OP chooses and why.

no decision yet I am leaning towards the glock for one reason I am very familiar with glocks , I have several even though I prefer 40sw “personal choice” it would be nice to shoot a platform I am familiar with when I go shooting with my son and same caliber as him instead of having both 9 and 40 ammo on the bench, I could just reload more 9mm for the both of us to shoot, at the same time still practicing with the same platform as my g23’s ,

Both are good deals, but it doesn’t sound like you particularly need either lol. I mean you have a full size, striker fired 9mm already. You have a 40. This is pretty much the definition of toss-up.

Flip a coin and rest confidently that fate made the right decision.

Personally, I’d take the G17. I like Glocks, and don’t particularly care for the XD/m series, after having owned one.

I voted Glock. While I've never shot a XDm I've owned a XD-40 service model since 2007. I've shot a couple of Glocks. If I were to buy another gun now it might or might not be a Glock but it wouldn't be a XD.

I can usually mitigate the "comfort" issue with Glock newbs in less than 2 hours of training. The gun isn't a brick at all, when you grip it right.

I voted Glock. You don't have to like it, many don't. I didn't, but I shoot it better than anything else, so I had to adapt.

Glock, CS is awesome! Sent mine in awhile back and it came back like new and shoots sooo much better. The frame was cracked, gen 2, now gen 3. All free. They replaced everything except the actual slide and barrel, even gave me a new mag. and sights.

I find the XD & XDm triggers have a long mushy take up to the break with quite a bit of over travel and a non tactile reset. My XD .45 Tactical was an accurate pistol when I could maintain some semblance of consistent trigger manipulation, but it was hit or miss, no pun intended.

I also am leery of carrying a pistol with a fully tensioned striker, so my XD was relegated to range use only.

My 2 cents, YMMV.

I could never get used to the Glock grip angle, though I can shoot my daughter’s G19 well. My son’s xdm9 is a fine pistol that I find easy to shoot! I had an xd9sc for several years til I changed my edc pistol and liked it a lot.

Get what points the best for you. Nothing wrong with a Glock, either if you like it.

Aside... I really have a hard time understanding how someone can hold/grip an xd series pistol and NOT depress the grip safety enough to fire it every time. I’m sure it happens as posted above—I just don’t understand how.

Neither one comes with a great trigger for trying to put together really small groups.

If you are just blasting to hit a six inch plate, maybe the trigger issue is not such a big deal?

I guess I agree with others who say whatever fits your hand is the best one to get.

Ask yourself, how many armed professional organizations outside of Croatia issue Xds?
A large number do, around a hundred if you count police departments in the U.S. separately. At least six official armies do, mostly in south-east Asia: Thailand, Indonesia, that sort of thing. But anyway, what does it tell us? By your logic since 6 armies use HS2000, it must be at least 3 times better than PYa, which is only official gun of 2 armies (not counting police; and it's a secondary standard in 1 of them).

Around a hundred out of about 18 thousand departments, are there any that we might have heard of?

Wow! If an elite military like Indonesia uses them, I think I better run out and get one. Thanks!
