Ouch! That hurt.

I have a 1939 Beretta M1934 in 380 (or 9mm Corto as the Italians call it). This is one of my many vintage guns that I love, but this one doesn't love me. Its the only pistol I have shot at the range that actual left a bruise on the palm of my hand. I have many 380 with short recoil and blow back designs, but none bruise me. I leave the range saying to myself, "But it is only a 380!!! What gives???"
I still love the gun and have its brother, a M1935 in 7.65mm.

Astra 400s and 600s . Both have an unpleasantly sharp recoil for the calibers they chamber. Must be the blow-back actions.
I know we've agreed to disagree on the Astra's before, brother...lol. I actually like shooting my 600. :)
Had a 2" Taurus Titanium .357.....that was uncomfortable.
Had a .380 PPK......that was surprising.
Shot a .500 S&W......that was challenging.
Had a .38 Cobra derringer.......THAT was painful!

And then there was that one time with my Boss' .375 Remington Ultra Mag........OMG.

6" Colt Anaconda with full house 44 mags. Muzzle flip was about a foot. 6 rounds of that was all I wanted. I offered up a box of 44 spl. and the rest of the shooting was pretty tame.

A friend wanted me to shoot his 500 S&W mag and I declined. I'm not really sure why those even exist. Maybe someone else knows.

.40 S&W Glock double-stack. I am not a Glock Guy so I don't keep up the crazy numbering system. It is my buddy's gun, and I hate to shoot it. It is snappy, and it hurts after a mag or so. I have a 2011 in .40 that is a pleasure to shoot, but that Glock... oh my, I just can't shoot it at all.

I just fired a Springfield XDs in 45 Auto, and let me tell you, I would hate to put more then a few rounds down range.

It's fairly individual, but XD-S in .45 was painful for me too. Not only the recoil was substantial, and the texture bit into my palm, but worse, the overall shape of the grip placed my knuckle into the the undercut of the trigger guard, and that hurt for real. I found Kahr CW45 and Shield 45 much more comfortable, despite the overall force of the recoil being similar across all 3.

For a while, I was considering buying the XD-S and filling up the undercut with JB Weld. It has certain characteristics that I like: extended factory magazines, grip safety, and the magazine release that holds magazines securely. I drop magazines on both Shield and Kahr once in a while, but never on an XD.

S&W 442.
I have a serious love/hate relationship with this gun.
I love how putting it in a Desantis Nemesis holster and dropping it in my pocket makes it disappear.
I hate how it beats the hell out of you whenever you shoot it.
Luckily for me I have masochistic tendencies, and have been known to shoot more than a box straight through it in a session. :D

I made the mistake of buying a 340PD a couple years ago. 38 special even fired up my arthritis and my hand was sore for several days. It soon became a safe queen until I found some one to give it to. I had decided that if I carried it and got into a situation, my best option was to give it to the criminal to fire. Let that sob suffer.

For me, I had for a short time a FEG PA-63 in 9x18 Mak. Hurt the web of my hand, nothing like my Bulgarian Makarov I have now. That's a piece of cake. :)
My other was also one I owned for a short time Glock 30 in 45. ACP. Glad I got rid of it.

I am curious how the new XD-S Mod2 will handle with the different grip texture. I have shot a XD Mod2 Sub Compact in 45 ACP (double stack) and it was enjoyable to shoot.

The only gun I have really disliked was the Bersa Thunder 380. That straight blowback action just stung the heck out if my hand. Musta been just me though. Many people consider it a soft shooter, and my wife never complained while we had it.

I now have a G42 and find it much more pleasant to shoot. Even though I was downloading my ammo for the Bersa and the Glock needs full power stuff to cycle.

WIthout a doubt an Astra 600 that I owned was the worst gun for inflicting pain on my hand. Straight blowback in a 9mm. is not a good thing!

I agree with the lightweight J frames being miserable to shoot. I honestly feel like I've been whacked across the palm with a hammer handle every time I fire one.

The little LCP can be snappy as well, but nowhere near as obnoxious as the scandium framed S&W's.
I own a 38spl j frame +p rated and was given about 30rds of Remington golden saber +p with it so one day at the gun range i decided i'm going to shoot my new gun with those little boot grips on it and the +p ammo. Ouch!!!

I purchased the larger Hogue grips for it and i could shoot probably 100rds of +p now i don't feel a thing.

Wow! A 4 shot .357 magnum derringer that weighed 28 oz’s empty. I see why there was complaints of it being too heavy for a backup gun. I bet it was quite unpleasant to shoot. Still pretty cool non the less and I wouldn’t mind having one.
My 3" Kimber K6S only weights 25.1 oz empty, and it isn't a problem with full house .357 loads. Might be a problem with the ergonomics of the COP.

Funny, I got rid of my XD/S .45 because it hurt too much to get good at shooting it. Now I have a Springfield micro 1911 .45 and it’s easy on the hand. I think it was just the wrong shape for me. My XD/M was fine.

The only other gun I ever got rid of for that reason was a PPK/S, which also would drop the mag out the bottom when it fired, but it always felt like a midget hit my palm with a little baseball bat so I was disinterested in getting to the bottom of the mag problem. Strange, because it was a solid little ingot—I wouldn’t have expected much recoil. Shows what I know...

Of all the guns I have to shoot the one I hate the most is the Jennings Nine. That thing just hurts the web of my hand. The bad thing about it is, I have to shoot four to five of them a year.
