What Make .22 Rifle & Used For?

Two different .22's, different owners, similar purposes: The converted M-52 Win. (Left hand conversion) belongs to my neighbor and so far as I can tell its main purpose is to make me envious. The other is my sporterized M-37 Rem. and so far its purpose has been to make him envious as well. So there you have it.. Rem37-1.JPG DSC_0147.JPG

My kids have a Marlin 70 and an old Mossy 377 Plinkster (the one from the '70s with the foam thumbhole stock):

But the only rimfire rifles I have had for the past ten years or so are a pair of old Marlin bolt guns, an 80E from the '30s and 81DL circa 1957, complete with their original peep sights. Great little tin can killers:

What Make .22 Rifle & Used For?
My Sears & Roebuck Model 25 semi-auto rifle that Santa brought me on 25Dec64 currently spends most of its time keeping the firearms in my north gunsafe company. :)

EDIT:
I also have the single-shot, bolt action JC Higgins Model 103.181 on which Dad started me out with firearms. We first used that rifle during a summer visit to this farm (where Mom was born and grew up) in '58 or '59 ... but it may have been as late as 1960.

This rifle resides outside of the gunsafes, sans bolt ... if someone breaks in and wants to use that rifle against me, it will have to be as a club ... they may beat me with it, but not shoot me with it. ;)

Keystone Arms Crickett. Total impulse buy nine years ago (went to the Sporting Goods Store That Shall Not Be Named for ammo), pest control and personal moments of Zen. I have had a bunch of .22s in the past, but they came and went. I was in dire straits and sold off all but this one, and couldn't be happier I did. No magazines to bother with, has next to no issues with any ammo out there, and is simply a joy to shoot. Plus, there's room in the buttstock for the rear sights, a few pieces of ammo, firestarter/compass, and a razor blade.
(Edited To Add) I forgot to mention it only weighs about 3 pounds total, and I almost forget it's on my shoulder, plus the short length of pull works out when I'm bundled up in the woods.

I have a 10/22 haven't shot in several months and was very accurate 75 yards + with Magpul X stock ,Primary arms scope ,BX trigger . I got bored punching paper so sold the stock ,scope and all the extras but ended up keeping the rifle. I recently installed Trushot sights had on before the scope and ordered a Volquartsen extractor, auto bolt open and oversized trigger pins. First chance will get out and sight it in, the only problem being a lefty is hot casings hitting my arm . 0101181246 (2).jpg

Not sure how many I have, at least 8. Mostly bolt action & peep sight. When I find one cheap at a gun show I buy it and stick it in the gun room. There are several of use that do this so we will have enough guns when we teach boy scout troops.

There are 2 that get shot the most. One is my wife's 1022. I built it for her years ago. It has a fluted heavy barrel and a Houge stock. She uses it to defend her garden from red squirrels and chipmunks.

The second is my favorite. A Steven's model 56 from around 1940. I got it at a show as a boyscout gun. I paid $75 for it. It looked beat up but it had a fine bead front sight and a 3 position peep rear

Once I got it cleaned up I sighted it in. High velocity rounds were not good but CCI suppressor rounds went into 1 hole at 25 yards. I have shot several red squirrels at 40+ yards with it.

Marlin Model 60 with KAT trigger. Haven’t shot it in six years. When I did shoot it was for plinking.

CZ 512 .22 Mag with a professional trigger job. Coyotes, armadillos that dig up yards.

I'm kind of a 22 rimfire nut and have a few. They are all just plinkers anymore as I've quit hunting. I kill steel swingers and cliche rocks mostly now. I also shoot some groups off the bench every once in awhile just to see if everything is still going where it's supposed to go.

I only have three .22 rimfire rifles.

My 39AS I've had since new for 24 years. When I got it I used it for fast lever action plinking at close range and small game hunting/pest control at ranges up to about 50 yards or so. After those days I added the peep sight to try it as a paper puncher. It's not nearly as fun as a paper puncher.

Then I got a Zastava MP22 rifle in .22 WMR in 2012 because a shootin' friend of mine had .22 WMR guns and I thought I had to have one. The short version is that I ended up turning the gun into a wannabe "scout" rifle a few years later. It's main purpose now is that it's fun to own and shoot, at whatever needs shootin'. :)

My last .22 rifle is a CZ452 Trainer that I convinced myself to purchase while CZ was still making them. The intent is to have fun shootin' with an old school style gun that has a quick adjust rear sight marked from 25 meters to 200 meters. It outshoots the 39AS but not the Zastava.
