Oh you guys might have cost me some money today:

This looks like a lot of fun!
I also was going to suggest the pump action .357... I have always wanted one.
I bought the Navy lightning for my uncle when his wrist went out and he couldn't run his lever guns any more. It's a really fun gun. Be advised, nobody has updated their stock photos and they don't come in case colored any more. Just blue.
But for ecclictic I would have to say the revolver carbine.
Or a double rifle http://www.bradshawgunandrifle.com/Small_bore_double_rifle.php
But more realistically, how about the ruger 96 in 357? Or the bolt gun, the 77/357
Looking to add something odd and eclectic in the above caliber. Purpose would be casual plinking. Wondering what is out there that isn't too collectable to shoot? Would be interested in a lever, single shot, slide action or possibly a revolver carbine. Just a fun range toy, no need to handle full power loads, just powder puff cast bullet loads. I might consider some of the older BP rounds such as .32-20 or .38-40 or .22 hornet as well.
The Thompson Contender (and later series) gives you just about any caliber that you want. But, be careful, it's addicting.
Not a fan of the mare's leg either. In fact when I see one, I feel like a potentially good rifle was robbed.Never been a fan of the "mare's leg" platform. Not really a pistol, not really a rifle. I have .357 revolvers, and a .357 contender is a possibility, would come in handy for silhouette.
The Contender is "not really a pistol, not really a rifle" imo.
I'll make the point again: if all of you interested in a .357 single shot will tell the guys at Henry Rifles so, perhaps they'll listen! They already have the platform; just need to build the barrels. Here's the link to their "Product Suggestion Box." They have already heard from me ...

We need Henry to offer a Double Rifle in some pistol and rifle calibers.
I want 2 shots.
I could be real well served with a 18" 357 (mag or Max) over 20ga with screw in chokes.

A kid on the way? Sounds like an excuse to celebrate with a new gun, which is what I did a few months back. Bought my tikka right before my son was born.I almost bid on it last night!
Actually I tried to place a bid on a 22mag/20ga that was more reasonably priced but my browser hiccup'd and I remembered I got a kid on the way. Took it as a sign.
