About 3 months ago, I gave a review of a new firearm after taking it to the range for it's first shooting. On that day, I shot 200 rds of 380. Thought nothing of the amount of ammo. I have been shooting a combinations of that amount of 9mm and 380 now about twice weekly for years.
But those days are over. And they will be for a long time. I do not have a crystal ball, but predicted exactly what is going on now for a very time. And NO I am not talking about the virus.

So, I have adapted to still going twice a week but now shooting 22.cal. I will not go into my 380 and 9mm stash that I have been saving for years. Way too precious of a commodity to do so. But I have to keep up my Skill level. Most especially point and shoot.
So enter the 22.cal Recently bought a LCP 22. to go along with my SR22, LCR22 and

Here is a picture of three months ago.

I have a very big supply of 22.cal, but have bought a additional 10,000 rds in the last few months. And what is my prediction? Well, I am already seeing the trend. In les than a few a months and you will see very little 22.cal. for sale.

What then. Air pistols. Already buying a many pellets as possible.

Example Khar P380 now shooting LCP22
LCR9mm now shooting LCR22

I use target Sports as my gauge to judge ammo supplies. Now a few boxes of Defense ammo in 9mm at $37.00. They have just one brand of 380 defense ammo only. Nothing else.
It has to be very expensive for any
New Shooter's to train. I also wonder how the retail market will fair in the coming year? I have been going to my LGS and range, very few people shooting and practically the whole staff is gone. Almost all new staff. I asked one of the newbies where did they all go? He said they quite and took other jobs. Also, they just shortened their working hrs. by one day.

It's amazing how the utility of air guns is commonly dismissed by the shooting community. You can do a lot to maintain and develop shooting techniques with good quality pneumatic and CO2 platforms.
Totally agree! One reason I have many Airguns, both Pistol and Rifle. And I can shoot every day.I have been incorporating Air guns with 22.cal, utill Rimfire is gone and then to Air guns only. (obviously)

Seems like last time around (Jan. 2013) it sold out even quicker. From mid-Dec 2012 to the end Jan 2013 stores went from fully stocked to sold out. This time it started in March and took until end of June before finding stock became a problem. Hopefully the panic doesn’t last as long this time but that’s impossible to tell.

I’m just glad that I reload and have a decent stash of all components.

I'm not sure it did. And it is hard to tell what inventories were on hand at the time compared to now and the volume being produced now. Can you predict the future? Maybe, maybe not. I think there are indicators that can at least enable you to make a prediction. As far as reloading compared to Stash of ammo. That is all relative. They both run out they both become short supply or none at all.

It will all hinge on the election results and the aftermath......

The Election Results? There is a whole lot more to those than just ammo. I personally believe if they go the wrong way, you will see a destruction of the US. At least the way we have known it for all these years. I doubt we will have firearms for long if that were to happen. And it will be at a time you will need one the most. Lol, might want to think about burying some of them.

Sure we are. Instead of buying what you immediately need/want, folks are buying with an attitude of "I HAVE to max out my credit card now and buy all I can because I might not get a chance later on"; this has happened every panic cycle, even with toilet paper, rubbing alcohol, and Clorox wipes.............Human nature to be kind until it might negatively affect you, then all bets are off..................

Just another example of why we need to have a little pile of BB’s set aside for a rainy day. I like to think of BB piles like gun safe capacity...figure out what you think you need, then double it...then double it again...and call that a good start..
And DON'T wait until the panic starts to buy; it's like watching folks here in hurricane country waiting until the absolute last minute ti find gas, batteries, water and groceries or trying to evacuate. The rule of 6Ps comes into effect then: Prior Planning Prevents P*** Poor Performance

Quite the opposite here. My LGS and indoor gun range have never been as busy as they are now. The LGS doubled his staff and there is almost no quiet time at the indoor range.

Ernie Bass, you are sounding kinda panicky. They haven't stopped making guns or ammo. Think about the logistics of trying to disarm American citizens, especially pissed off ones. Hundreds of millions of guns and billions of rounds of ammo are in the hands of private citizens.

No mention of black powder arms - whole nations were won and lost with those arms and not a word in this string - history did get wiped out!

It would be interesting to see what is the growth of effected states and the rate as to the shortage. Yes, in the South we saw a increase in sales staff and busy ranges, even people lined up outside in a line to buy guns and ammo. Then slowly, actually almost rapidly going down to where it is now. Do you anticipate that your robust sales and shooting will continue?
Just go on line and tell me what you see for "Available 9mm". Almost sold out every where.

For the reloaders here:

Midway has Berry’s 9mm bullets in stock. As far as 22lr goes, they only have the expensive stuff.

I remember a period of FOUR YEARS without seeing ANY .22lr ammo for sale anywhere, other than the very occasional box or two of expensive Eley... I didn't shoot hardly anything, for fear that I'd never be able to replace the ammo. Get ready for much, much worse to come.

The last couple of years have been a fantastic opportunity to stock up at low cost. Hope everyone did. Pretty clear that the market for ammo, components, whatever will be tight for the remainder of the year. I actually picked up black powder rifles in the past couple years as a hedge against some of this nonsense. More fool me because I shied away from flintlocks and now percussion caps have become a rare commodity. Oh well. I should probably pick up a decent air rifle. Can always cast pellets.
