So I don't complain much. I learn from my mistakes, the mistakes of other and sometimes (though rarely) have the common sense to recognize something as a potential mistake.

I recently received an email from one company that I'll refrain from naming, though some here probably know the folks I'm talking about.

Up for sale is a CZ Custom Bull Shadow for a tidy sum of $2,192. Can't afford all that dough right now, no problem... there's a payment plan. As low as $100.38 for 36 months. Yeah math, right? Hopefully nobody feels the the need to take them up on that sweet offer.

That's not the rant though. This is the rant:

Not a bad looking pistol if I say so myse...hey, wait. What?!
Why oh why did they choose to do this? I'm sure if you look at the above image for a few seconds, you'll see what I'm referring to.

Very "Hi-Point" of you CZ to stick that on a $2,200 (or $3,613) pistol.

I guess I do feel a little better now. Thanks for the soap box, guys.

Nope, me neither. I see no similiarity with a HiPoint except that both are butt-ugly.......

Are you talking about the Phillips-head grip screw?

S&W took alot of flack for using one on the M645 safety lever. To make matters worse, they would often work their way loose and were eventually replaced with an Allen-head, and then redesigned to eliminate the screw entirely on the 3rd Gen.

I'm going to guess you're referring to the colored monofilament front sight, instead of a proper tritium front sight.

Technically, while the tritium front sight is powered by nuclear fission, the solar front sight is powered by nuclear fusion, so it's more better. . . and you don't need to carry the fusion around with you.

Nonetheless, I agree on the uselessness of passive fiberoptic sights. It's an illuminated dot that only works when you don't need it. . .

Are you talking about the Phillips-head grip screw?

Yes, appearing straight from Home Depot. Perhaps that's a personal quark of mine but it bugs me and bugs me a lot! I don't need a hex or Torx screw but please at least make it a flat head. It's like sporting sandals while wearing a three piece suit. The irk-factor is much subdued when paired with a $140 Hi Point, but for something that can cost 20 times that? Like nails on a chalk board.

It nearly drives me to drink.

A very, very good point. Though, I kinda like the idea of carrying fusion around with me... if it wasn't for that 100 million Kelvin stuff. Though I'm pretty stubborn, I could probably handle it.

Phillips head screw on the grips of a high dollar handgun, especially an otherwise classy CZ, is like a moustache on a print of the Mona Lisa.

Off the top of my head, my CBC 7022 .22 rifle has Phillips head take down screws but it cost less than the monthly payment of that $2K+ CZ. The CBC 7022 was $69.95 and you only see the screw heads if you turn it over.

I'm not one to bash brands or rant and I know cz is a beloved brand by many . general consensus is that cz makes high quality, ergonomic and accurate guns. They all seem kind of cheesey to me though and I wouldn't buy the orange bull shadow thing , even if it were $700.

Can't believe you guys didn't spot that sooner. Even Hi Point dropped the Phillips head screw on the new YC9 (if they can ever get that thing out the door). IMHO every screw on a gun should be torx head, though I can live with slotted or hex head.

Torx look funny on a lever-gun or Winchester 97 pump shotgun, just sayin'.

But it's a grip screw, so unless it's super specialized (shouldered, oversize head etc) just change it out to one with a drive type you like.

I have literally never noticed the type of grip screw on any gun. Its just not something I look for or care about.

In full honesty, I kinda hate torque/star screws. If I ever need to take the grips off my gun on the fly I'm hosed if I dont have my specific driver. I carry 3 kinds of flats and a philips in my pocket on a multitool.

I do think it looks a little less "finished", but it wouldnt bother me if I wanted the gun and it shot well.

Everything they changed from the base CZ75 is gaudy.

That was my thoughts as well. Maybe its purpose built and highly functional but its pretty ugly compared to the base model.

Me either. And that gun is so blocky and ugly that the (easily changed) screw type is pretty low on the list.

I would rather have torx though in case some A-hole with an impact driver puts the screw in too tight which is far too common these days.

Not crazy about the name or the little "bull" icon on the slide but the grip screws do bother me slightly. Not enough to make me swap them out or drive me to strong drink. Just a minor annoyance that I can live with on what is already a fine handgun.

I guess I'm not as sophisticated as y'all are.
To me, that's just another black semi auto handgun, that looks no different than 1,000 others on the market.
A phillips head screw does nothing to detract from something that is already very pedestrian looking.
I'm sure its a fine handgun, all the reviews I've seen suggest that, but it's not a work of art.

If it was something with ivory grips and a high gloss finish, I'd understand caring about it.

Just my opinion.

I am underwhelmed by the Czech X screws but not enough to keep me from recognizing a serviceable pistol.

I saw one the other way 'round a few days ago. A video showed a particular gun with two piece full length guide rod being taken down. (I looked it up for a poster who must have mislaid his instructions.) The rod end was slotted instead of the usual hex socket. The Expert Professional Gunsmith (store clerk) in the video had a very hard time unscrewing that thing. I bet there were scratches all over the front end of that gun.

Seems an odd thing to worry about. I know I’ve got access to a Phillips head screw driver pretty much everywhere. Torx? Not so much. I guess that’s why I own a couple of CZs.

The screw doesn't bother me. Charging over $3600 for a $2192 gun if you finance it does. If my math is right they're charging 36% interest?

Welcome to the USA today.
People don't care if they're getting ripped off, they only care about what it costs per month.
There are a lot of guns I'd like to have but don't because I can't lay down the cash at the moment.
I'd love to have a Freedom Arms revolver, and I could buy one with a credit card any time I felt like it.
But even though I'm just a half smart Arkansas boy, that don't seem real smart.
