Like a lot of THR members, I have little or no self control when it comes to guns. Lol.
I stopped in a small town Hardware store that I remembered had a small gun counter to see what they might have. They only had 9 guns total. 5 new and 4 consignments.
On the bottom shelf I saw a beautiful
Blackhawk wearing incredible Stag grips in an old ruger box. I asked to see it and realized it was a 45 Colt. Just what I've been looking for. Serial no. dates it to 1977.
The bluing is just about perfect. Not a mark. Very faint turn line on the cylinder. Perfect grips with that Awesome yellow aged color. I removed the cylinder. No carbon fouling, No visible wear, Hammer is beautiful, bore is beautiful with only a little dust at the muzzle. If this gun was ever fired it certainly wasn't fired very much.
I could go on but when I saw the price, well you know the old cliche.
Only one pic for now. I'll probably start a new thread when I clean it up and shoot it.

Sweet!! I would love to be able to walk into a place like that and score such a beauty . You did very well with that .45 Colt for sure :).

I miss the days of the hole in the wall gun counters. I think the last time I went to a non-gun gun store was a Coast to Coast auto parts store in Carson City, Nv. The store was having a “going out of business” sale and I picked up a few boxes of Rem 117 gr RN Core Lokt for my .257 Roberts.

Let us know how it shoots for you when you get a chance to get out.

Stay safe.

I remember about ten years ago walking into a mom and pop hardware store in Marquette Michigan, and they had a mint blued 29-2 in the presentation case for $750. Being broke and uneducated on the wonders of Smith revolvers at the time I didn't buy it. I wonder if it is still there.............

That was such a great score I'm not even going to ask what the other guns in the display case were!

There was another revolver that I'm definitely interested in. I made an offer on it but I have to go back and talk to the owner tomorrow. He wasn't in today.
If I end up with it, it deserves its own thread. I'll give you hint. It's over 100 years old and may have traveled to France and back.

How much, do tell, that’s beautiful it would have come home with me also.

The price on the Blackhawk was so good I didn't need to dicker.

Okay then I'm just going to throw my cards on the table and say that if it's an auto it's a Colt M1911. If it's a revolver it could be a Colt or else a S&W Model 1917.

Beautiful! What a find! Congrats.
Are you familiar with. 45colt?
Its my favorite big bore.
Thanks Armored farmer.
This is my first 45 colt. I have brass and a few hundred 250 gr. bullets. I'll have to dig around and see if I have any other suitable bullets.
I also taught myself how to cast during the virus lockdown so I'll be looking for a mold or two when they come back in stock.
Do you have any advice for reloading or a favorite powder/bullet combo?

I knew they were faux stag but they do look awesome. Thanks.
You guessed right on the other gun. Colt 1917. It looks to be in very good condition with the original blue finish, not parkerized. It's missing the original grips and the lanyard ring.
I won't be able to get back there until Thursday at the earliest. I don't want to pay the asking price so I'm hoping they will be willing to negotiate.
