Doesn't fit your profile but clearly the best longish range handgun is the 5.7x28. Accurate well past 100 yards.

Thank you for that. The 5.7x28 fired from a handgun is ballistically identical to the .22 Magnum Rimfire fired from a rifle. From a rifle, I'd say 125 yds. would be about maximum range.

The new Ruger is in my price range. I've not heard of anyone reloading 5.7, but I suppose it's possible. I think my manual has it in the pistol section.
I have no trouble hitting @ 150 w either my 9mm or my 45. My j frame also, but that's a bit more challenging.
5"×12" steel channel.Hitting what?
Much further than that, especially with a scope.Say I were to consider an Encore/Contender style handgun, in say 30-30. What would that allow me to do? 100, even 150 or 200 yards?
Interesting. I may have to open up my parameters. I have dies for 30-30 already. I don't know that I would enjoy shooting a rifle cartridge in a handgun, but 30-30 doesn't seem too bad. 308 is likely right out though. If nothing else I could use the more aerodynamic 30 caliber bullets in the 30-30.

30 CARBINE RUGER REVOLVER
Who did that revolver gunsmithing? I have an idea I might pursue.
