I’ve shot every weapon I’ve ever owned and many that I’ve never owned. Guns are made to shoot...A friend of mine recently picked up a WASR-10 that's never been fired. The dude he bought it from picked it up at a gun show back in the 90s and it sat in the original box until said friend got it. It still smells like cosmoline and, after inspecting it, there's no sign of fouling or carbon literally anywhere in the rifle.
Now he's telling me he's scared to shoot it!
I can see hanging onto one for the sake of having an "unfired" weapon, but does anyone else do this? I've never been in this situation but I'm just curious if you guys think my buddy is an idiot for not using his new weapon or if he's a true collector for hanging onto it.
8x50 not bad but if now in 8x56 very stout recoil (with nazi anschuss ammo)Yes.... a pre WWI, Steyr Mannlicher M.95 Carbine. A straight-pull bolt action, somewhat similar to the new Ruger straight pull bolt action! memtb

If it has an "S" on the barrel just forward of the receiver its in 8x56r and you are in luck as ammo is available but pricey. If not its likely early 8x50r which may may it more valuable but original ammo was out of sight even before fauxvid.I’ve got to research and see what cartridge it is! It’s just been in the vault for years! memtb
